Today I bought the IP8100-2 from BB and setup the Vonage service. Setup was easy just charge the 2 phones and connect the
IP8100 to my Linksys router WRT54GS I am using Comcast Cable at 6MB speed. Setup the account online <3 min also asked for MAC ID from the box.. In less then 5 min the phone start working.

problem: when I call my home phone from Vonage phone same area code it goes to voice mail. but when I call from my home phone to the Vonage phone it works fine. Also If I call another area code from my Vonage phone it works fine. So for some reason I can not call my home phone from Vonage phone???

Another issue I have with Vonage is that I order from them online the same setup on 12/6 but still tonight they havent shipped it.
so I decided to go to BB and pay $20 more and start it now.
What should I do with my old order from Vonage.
Their CS says they can not cancel it (BS). They told me not to accept the package once deliver. Also I requested the # portibility with my old order. With my new order it says unable to port my # ??

Can you call your Vonage home phone from a non-Vonage external phone and have it work? Have you set up voicemail on the web site? It may be set to answer immediately. Try diabling it completely and see what happens.

The problem is not my Vonage phone. I can call my Vonage phone from different phones (same area code + different area code).
What I can not do is to call my AREA code (same as Vonage area code). Like I try to call my SBC home phone from Vonage home phone both have the same area code and the call goes to voicemail on SBC home phone.

I have not setup the voice mail on my Vonage phone but thats not the problem. Incoming are fine on my Vonage phone.

If you haven't already, try power cycling all your equipment, bringing it up in the right order (start at the modem and work toward the computer).

I assume that you have this problem calling other phones in the same area code, and not just your home phone (?). If that's the case, then give Vonage customer service a call and get them busy on this. If the problem is unique to your home phone, then the first issue I'd suspect would be that you have a phone number transfer in process. Do you?

steve,

I can call other phones in the same area code. So the problem is unique to my home phone which is opted for a number portibility.

So why would that cause Vonage calls to go to VM on home phone.

If other people call your home phone do they go to voice mail? I'm not sure I'm reading your post right but it sounds like its your home phone that is the issue. Maybe Ma Bell cut off your service and is forwarding to voicemail?

Other phone can call my home phone with no problem. Only my Vonage phone can not call my home phone. (other phone are my cell phones which has no problem calling my home phone).

suspect a porting issue.
Before I (or someone else) explains the routing issues is this what is happening? A porting issue?

NEW INFO - read your post and this is what is happening.

All of us who have our numbers ported have gone through this. Hopefully I can explain it correctly.

You state that when you call your home mumber from your Vonage account it goes to voice mail and this is how it should be as weird as it sounds. This is because Vonage automatically assigns your old POTS number to your account and forwards the calls to your new Vonage number.

I hope I said that correctly.

But the bottom line is that when you call your home line from your Vonage line your are in effect calling yourself and it goes to voice mail. Call your Vonage line from a cell phone to test it out.

Unless, of course, I am wrong and then you can disregard this message.

I am not sure how long it will take them to port my # from SBC.

Right. That's why asked about porting. A call from _any_ Vonage phone to his old number- the one being ported- will go to the Vonage phone. When he uses his Vonage phone to call the old phone, he's essentially calling himself and it goes to voicemail.

Based on what we've heard, I think everything is fine.
