Oh, wait, we don't have access to the firmware anyway, so who cares what it's running, as long as it runs? VXWORKS would certainly free up some router memory... But the licensing fees, oh the horrible licensing fees on all those old routers that were already built with the extra memory for Linux. Linksys'd go broke, or Vonage would, or both. Wink

It will be sooner than I thought - they sent us an email telling us that they were giving us .58 but not to unleash it yet because it hasn't passed QA yet.

i have a question. other than the cid plague on certain routers, what is .58 supposed to do? i'm sure it will do a lot of nasty things its not supposed to do ,(spontaneous router combustion Twisted Evil ) but i'm just curious what else its supposed to fix.

I'd still like to see a changelog for the various versions... Even a "known issues" list would be nice.

and I'm willing to bet money that this update comes out before Christmas.

LOL!!! Changelog! Oh, sometimes you slay me! Whoo. Thanks, I needed a good laugh.

Seriously, I would have just like to have some warning that a firmware version was coming out and being pushed to me, so I would have saved 3-4 days of hell trying to figure out why my network had gone to sh*t. Smile

58 was pushed to me today. I do not know if this is the start of a general release or not.

I got a voice mail and email from a Vonage tech about an hour after I noticed the router blinking and I had already confirmed 58 by logging into the router.

I had 55 with a custom fix about a month ago that cured both my caller ID and voice mail indicator issues for weeks now.

Now that I have had 58 for a few hours, I can report:

1. Caller ID still works after 3 different phone calls. Smile

2. Voice mail stutter is broken. I cleared the voice mail message by phone, and even checked to make sure the VM had been cleared in my Vonage account on line. It had - it was in the deleted VM folder. Yet the stutter tone remains, there are no new messages, my external VM light and the Line 1 light on the RTP 300 are blinking away. Cry

This has been one of those days.

On the advice of Vonage CS, I removed the voice mail stutter tone by doing the following.

1. Called my Vonage phone and left a test VM message
2. Logged into my Vonage web account
3. DISABLED voice mail
4. ENABLED voice mail (creates a new XML config file)
5. Called 123* on my Vonage phone
6. Deleted the voice mail message

The stutter tone went away.

I have a new issue ever since 58 was installed. I use my computer FaxModem with an auto-dialer, logging, Caller ID application I wrote. It worked great until today.

Now, when the FaxModem goes off hook to dial the number before any other phone goes off hook, the Vonage line has a terrible signal to noise ratio that I hear when I pick up any other phone. This noise remains even when the FaxModem goes back on hook. I can get rid of it by going off hook to the 3 way dial tone and back to the original call.

I can avoid the noise by taking the phone that I will be using to talk off hook first before dialing with the computer, but I never had to do that until today after 58 was installed. I can also avoid the noise by using a different modem that must not load the line the same way as the FaxModem.

The broader implication this problem has for those getting 1.58 may be that some phones they have that work fine now will be noisy when 1.58 is installed. This FaxModem is just another piece of phone equipment like any other telephone, and so far 1.58 seems fussy about how a telephone loads the line when it picks up.

I requested and CS agreed to escalate my ticket because there was no record of the custom settings that had fixed my 1.55 Caller ID issues.
