PostPosted: Fri Dec 09, 2005 12:10 pm    Post subject: pacemaker poor transcription signal Reply with quote Back to top

Hi All,
I have been a Vonage customer for a couple months. I have a pacemaker and every three months there is a phone transmission of any events for the quarter. I was unable to send a clear signal at all yesterday. I attributed this to my new phone service. Has anyone else had this experience or any suggestions?
Thanks
Biggie

If it uses a dialup modem it probley will not work unless you can somehow change the speed to 1200 or 9600 or something. Maybe it is possible to send the information from work or something. You have a telephone cord hanging out of your chest? Best of luck. Im sure you will receive other suggestions?

First, on your pacemaker device, see if you can turn down the baud rate as KDW suggested. Also try telling it to dial *99 first, that puts the ATA in 'data mode' which is a bit more workable for data transmission.

See if you can get customer care to change the packet rates on your device, the normal fax/tivo troubleshooting steps.

I too was wondering what Kevin so tactfully asked - Is there a phone cord hanging out of your chest? Because that would be awesome. If I could get a fiber port or RJ45 into my skull I might do that...

Oh no, I want a full on dual OC-3 with auto-cutover when one goes down. Maybe we can do REALLY integrated gaming with that! Very Happy

I am not sure what transponder his pacemaker is using, but most telemetry systems do not use a "carrier tone". If no tone, the signal may not transmit.

If he will private message the pacemaker and model (if known), I can check the database.

Just a thought.

Hey...first I don't have a phone cord coming out of my chest...it is coming out a completely different orfise{just kidding}.
When you get a pacemaker a transmitter is provided to send info on your device, My transmitter is made by Medtronic, Model - 9531PW Telephone ECG Transmitter.
The thing reminds me very much of some of the old faxes machines, where your phone was laid into a cradle to send the Fax.
It is the size of a large book, it has two leads one for each wrist. It is powered by a 9 volt battery.
Someone mentioned type of modem, I am on a cable modem and router. I feel certain this is the root to my problem.
I do want to thank everyone for the input and the giggles and grins. I am sure I will find an answer with all the help. I was going to post a pic of my pacemaker but could not seem to get the code to work.
It is abou the size of a stack of three silver dollars. It is implanted in my upper left chest. Here is a link with info on pacemakers:http://www.lifebeatonline.com/fall2005/living.shtml
Thanks again,
Biggie

when they said modem, they mean the device powered by the 9v battery that dials up to your hospital (your transmitter), not the cable modem.
See if you can get it to dial *99 before it connects to the hospital. You may have to get your hospital to reprogram it. Alternatively, pick up any phone handset connected to the Vonage line and dial *99 before you tell the device to connect.

I guess my post was not clear. the transmitter does not have a modem. I recieve a telephone call from the medical tech and then manually set up the device.

ah. how does the device connect, is it an accoustic coupler (put the phone on it)? does it plug straight into the line?

If the device sends data over the phone line, then by definition it has a modem or is one.

Another thought- try logging into your dashboard. Turn the bandwidth saver to medium, then back to high bandwidth.
