Might just be in my application. I currently have a wrt45g and I notice that when even I am on the phone the connection sometimes drops. No matter how many different channels I try, thus causing your telephone conversation to drop. Maybe it is either my equip, ie phone, router or location of the router. I have done everything incuding stand on one foot with a lamp shade on my head. I have never fooloed around with the qos - if you could post a link, I would appreciate it.
I have even noticed that the hard wired equipment receive better speed test results.
Not trying to knock anyones setup here, but that was just myu opinion. |

I'm currently running the RTP31P2 behind my WRT54Gv4 and everything is great. QOS is an absolute must, but do the research on it here to best configure it. Rather than post a link to something that just says what it is, do a search on these forums for QOS and you'll LOTS of stuff that explain how to implement for different devices. I'm still amazed that the WRT I bought back in like 2001 is the best thing since sliced bread. |

I tried the RTP300 behind my Linksys 802.11B router (no QoS settings) and had some problems that way. I changed it to first position, and they went away. I had to change the IP address of the wireless router to the same subnet, but a simple enough fix. The RTP300 has an IP of 192.168.15.1 & the wireless is ...15.2 - both are accessible and my voice quality is great. |

Same thing happened to me. The Vonage tech said I had to have the adapter as the 1st hop after the modem. After they got me going I switched things around. |

Yes, if you don't have QoS, then the Vonage adapter becomes "just another client" and is subject to network usage patterns, which can really make your Vonage line quality stink.
The Vonage routers don't have the best QoS on the planet, and the WRTP54G for example can still provide terrible Vonage performance if you start a large upload or transfer while on the Vonage line, but it's a LITTLE better than putting it behind a non-QoS router.
But the BEST configuration is to put the Vonage adapter or router behind a REAL router with working QoS. After fighting other stability issues with my WRTP54G, I finally went out and bought a WRT54G and loaded it up with an aftermarket firmware that has good, solid QoS. And you know what? Not only can I do anything I want while on the phone WITHOUT my Vonage line going screwy on me, I've also noticed that calls are cleaner and clearer, and I don't have to reboot my router every day to keep it working.
So, if you have a router with working QoS, it should go first, and Vonage should get top priority. If you don't, then put the Vonage device first and remember that you have to manage your bandwidth yourself to a degree. |
