This site:
http://michigantelephone.mi.org/distribute.html
discusses the security system jack issue pretty well. Basically, you have to make certain your ATA is connected to its UPstream terminals, not to any set of terminals in the house wiring like a system without one.
That site will point you to this one:
http://www.hometech.com/learn/rj31x.html
where more of the details are explained. But the bottom line is very likely you will have to run a physical wire from the ATA to that jack. If that is REALLY imnpossible, consider a wireless bridge like this:

It's' supposed to bridge ANY Ethernet gadget to a wireless network, so it may do the job. But I would try doing it the hardwired way (on the telephone side) before buying any more hardware, even if only temporarily to make sure it works before spending more cash. |

The installer from CPI Security in NC tried for a couple of hours to get the system to call over Vonage and had no luck. This site came up on Google and I had the fix almost immediately. Vonage was very friendly and the whole process took 15 minutes. I wish I had surfed here sooner. LOL. |
If you have a company that only accepts 800 number calls from a certain region, things may not work. CPI uses a 800 number that only works from the southeast region since they only service NC and SC. When that number is dialed, you are not guarenteed that the Vonage server which will transfer the call to POTS is in a southeast state. You can either have them change to a long distance number (which would not matter if you have unlimited calling) or get your installer to enter in their nationwide 800 number that the service center reps say does not exist. In any case, I had this issue and was upset about their proposed long distance number change since they "only had a regional 800 number". When the installer came out, they entered a nationwide 800 number that works great.
