Is anybody else in NC experiencing poor service (sound quality, dropped outgoing voice, etc.)? We have very poor sound quality (long delay, low volume, etc.) especially when making local calls
(same exchange) in the mornings. So far Vonage can't do anything
to fix it. I believe it's a problem in Vonage's server network. I talked a friend into Vonage, and he is having the same type of poor service, which he didn't have with Time Warner digital telephone.

You might want to post some trace routes for your ISP and run some of the Voip tests. You can repeat them without your router (your PC connected directly to the internet) that way you can see if your router may be bad or if its an ISP issue.

Thank you for the suggestion, but I have done all of that. I've run the Speakeasy speed test, and the Ping Plotter program that Vonage sent to me, and the cable network is ok. Vonage also replaced the telephone modem with no help. I have neighbors on the same cable network, with Time Warner Digital telephone, and they don't have a problem. This is why I believe the problem is with
Vonage server networks. I can call my mom, and the sound is terrible, we hang up, and she calls me back, and the sound is fine.

Did you try cloning your mac address on your cable router? There have been rumors of cable companies slowing down Vonage performance on purpose to get people to use the cable company's.

I mean its the exact same bandwidth so it has to chafe the cable companies.

The problems are random, so I don't think this is the case. I think that Vonage has grown too fast, and they haven't kept up with their hardware resources.

Time Warner Cable

3. Upload and download speeds
download = 3451KBPS
upload = 356KBPS

4. Modem make and model
Motorola SB5100

5. Type of Vonage adapter used ie RT31P2 or PAP2
Linksys RTP300

6. Setup of Network ie Modem---->Vonage Adapter-->PC
Cable Modem->Telephone Modem->Wireless Router-> PCs

7. Issue you are experiencing ie dropped calls, choppy audio etc
Poor sound quality (especially early morning, and local exchange calls), dropped outgoing voice, etc.)

8. DETAILED results from www.testyourvoip.com with a test call to Boston.
Score -> 4.2

Trowski, I didn't see anything from testyourvoip in that format.

Just a couple of points:
1) Most of the poor quality, long-delay calls are to local exchange
calls. Since testyourvoip would only be long distance calls, this
might not show the problem (back to my earlier point about the
server network problem)

2) Using the "Ping Plotter" program, there is an IP address that always shows up with high packet loss: 208.174.228.22. I have
sent this information to Vonage Advanced Tech support, without
any results!!

It's usually after the test is done, it's a button near the bottom. It basically helps check if the latency, delay etc could be affecting your calls.
