I'm in Raleigh and have consistent dropped calls and some garbled voice. Never had a problem with previous TWC digital phone. I've also replaced my modem, router, and cordless phones.

My setup is very similar to yours - I'm in Chapel Hill, Area Code 919, with TWC RR as my ISP and I use the Moto 5100. The only significant difference is that I use the PAP2. I've had Vonage for 4 months now and I've had great results - no call quality issues at all (well, I did have to re-boot my adapter once). I believe your TWC headend is a physically different location, so it could be ISP related. I do doubt it is a Vonage capacity or system issue however, since in the same general area, I'm not having problems.

Takeda,

I know EXACTLY what you're talking about, however I'm on Comcast and up in Maryland. I had to call Vonage several times and they changed me from one proxy server to another and then finally off of their proxy servers and on a "real" server. This changed seemd to help, however, I still had problems now and then. My problems were whenever I called anyone (800 number, long distance, local whatever) my outbound audio would be real broken and choppy and almost completely non-understandable. It would vary too, not always be. Whenever someone would call me, my outbound audio would be just fine. Very strange if you ask me! I was running the standard 6M down and 384K up for my bandwidth. Well, since 1 Dec I upgraded to Comcast's 8M down and 768K up (for $10 extra a month -- they're goes my wonderful Vonage savings) and I haven't had the choppy, broken outbound audio problem since (aside from the normal Voip pops we all get). Here's the kicker, for the past 2 months with my old configuration (6M/384K) I never had a problem with either inbound or outbound calls. My problem came clear out of the blue. At first I thought it was a conspiracy by Comcast to sabotage my Voip line especially since they are just now starting to roll out their new Voip service, however, after speaking with a Comcast tech support rep for over an hour, I was convinced they weren't causing my problems and that something must be wrong on Vonage's end.

Bottom line, since the speed increase, my problems have gone away. So maybe, that is the fix. But it still doesn't make any since that all this time before I was fine with the "lower" speeds. Anyways, I hope my experience helps you and anyone else out there with this problem.

A friend at work who lives in Fuqua has had the same experience.
He had TWC digital prior to Vonage with no problem. Now he has
the same problems I have.

Hello,

I live in the Detroit Metro area. I have the same problem with local call quality. I can call out of state and quality is great. I can call to other area codes within SE Michigan and quality is fine. Usually calling within our area code is ok. I call 1 mile away and sounds like we are using tin cans. Sometimes it is worse than others, but consistently poor. We have had Vonage for about a year now and this is the only issue that we have.

I'm in Raleigh, and I've had Vonage for over 3 years now. I am not currently having any problems with Vonage, and have not had any problems recently.

A couple years ago I had problems similar to what you're describing, and the problem was with Time Warner, not Vonage. I was also having problems with my internet and TV service as well, and not just Vonage. Time Warner came out and replaced my cable modem, then replaced all the wiring inside my house, then replaced the cable from the pole to the house. I was still having problems, and after threatening calling the Attorney General's office, the BBB, the City of Raleigh Franchise Authority, and a few other places they finally got me fixed. The problem was at the main line coming into my neighborhood. Seems it was in really bad shape, and as soon as they fixed that everything was great.

The only other time I had a problem was about a year ago. My Cisco ATA (the original device Vonage used to send out) died. I called and they sent a replacement (a Linksys model) out right away.

Other than those two things (neither of which was Vonage's fault), I've never had any problems at all.
