Post subject: Dont believe everything you read !!
Hello there
Well guys my very humble opinion is dont believe everything you read or hear from the senior officials about the UPGRADE stuff... I was wondering with a statement like this who are they trying to fool over here?? the people i mean the end users who are simple enough to buy whatever they say.. lets think first.. not only the Qtel internet helpdesk said its been blocked besides there was a comment in one of the posts here that " an agent said they are TOLD NOT TO SAY its been blocked..."
so i guess its more than an upgrade.
Mind you still not all the people are able to have a voice chat or web cam functioning through the messengers at least not me neither can all of my friends.
I think they are simply playing with words to cover the mess they have created.. after all ... the DIRECTOR himself said to one of the guys over here its been blocked & this is what we are also hearing from them.
Ammmmmm lets see what they come up with now if we ask them again....
They have a different statement every time......

I agree with aladin's observations.
Qhell is misinforming about opening the ports/VoIP service. It can get away openly misstating the facts. This is outrageous.

Post subject: VoIP & Skype == Change to qatar proxy
Hi guys,
I found the following post on qatarliving.com. But how do you change the proxy settings on the
Vonage
router?
>>
Ok here is the solution:
I basically called them (125) and told them that I cannot reach skype site. (After the response from their GM on the newspaper). And from there, the technical person told me to just add to my proxy
(proxy.qatar.net.qa) and port is (8080)
After that, I was able to go buy minutes and call whoever I want.
And it is working fine. But you need to make sure to adjust the skype connection to that proxy so that it works. And so if you are using
Vonage
or such, need to adjust the proxy to the qatar proxy. Otherwise, it wont work.
And skype is working perfectly find for me.....And yes, even for PC to PC...As for MSN, i have not tried it since ages due to the huge difference of voice quality between skype and MSN.

Yes, Skype works via the proxy.
However, phone adapters won't work. It is simple, Qtel has the address of only http proxy, which handles browsing services.
Voip
ports are still blocked (at least at the router to which I am connecting).
I spoke to Qhell today and mentioned about the press release and ports being closed (still!). They informed that all the ports are open(!) and quality of calls will improve once their network upgrade is complete(?)
Any thoughts from you folks?
Regards

Post subject: Loss of VoiP in Qatar
Hi all,
My connectivity has been non-existent since day one of this mess. Until last night my router (Linksys RT31P2) has not been able to connect with the
Vonage
server. My router is now connecting with the server but when I dial out I get a fast-busy tone. Once I hang up the phone I lose my connection to the server. If I renew the DHCP it will usually reestablish the server connection. I have tried going into the QoS and lowering the upstream bandwidth. I started at 512, which is default, and worked my way down to 128. Still the same. Has anyone had luck with an upstream down in the 64 range or lower??

Just an additional note on moeed's comment about proxy, now Skype works even without the proxy entries. It looks like they are allowing Skype's web site.
cheers

We are able to get to the Skype's web site and able to download the beta version of Skype without any problem. But when I do the testing which is supposed to connect with their servers, it fails.
Same thing is true with the
Voip
testing as well.
I know few of my friends staying at SANA are able to use their
Vonage
units but I wasn't that lucky. I couldn't get my Motorola VT 1005 MTA unit to work. On rebooting it starts with a single flash, goes through the two and three flashes and gets stuck at the four flashes and keeps on flashing four flashes meaning it is registering with the
Vonage
servers and never becomes steady. Is there any one who could help me out if there is some settings that I need to change.
MTA: Motorola VT 1005
DSL Modem Bridge Zoom 5515.

Dear Damras,
Have you tried to take your
Voip
adapter to a friend's house to check whether your system works at another location? This will show if the problem you are facing is a hardware problem or a landline (Internet bandwidth) problem. You can also check to see if you have the latest software loaded-up on your Motorola VT 1005 MTA. You can do this by accessing your adapter and checking it against the manufacturer latest software.

Thanks bmardini. I checked the site
http://broadband.motorola.com/consumers/support/default.asp?supportSection=VoiceGateways
there are no upgrades for the Motorola Unit VT 1005. I shall take my unit to a location where the
Vonage
is working and try since you could be right there could be a problem with my Telephone Adaptor. I took the screen print of the Motorola unit when I started using. Now I see under status of late the Software version as VT20_01.1.14, Boot Rom Version:VT20_01.1.14, but I see the Config file version blank now, whereas it had a 7 digit number earlier.
After trying I shall let you know, if I succeed. I had asked
Vonage
to change the SIP(Session Initiation Protocol) but they haven't replied. The response from
Vonage
is all automated and we really don't get much of help through e mails. Does anyone has the e mail address of
Vonage
when addressed would reply.
