SMP:
I have a linksys that was gotten through Vonage two months ago.
I have two friends who also have linksys units and one with a motorola unit. All of them have no service.
Two others with unknown adaptors also have no service.
The only rhyme or reason I can see is that I complained to Qtel and State.

PatGund: Good job being rational. You set an example we ALL should follow when posting and posting follow-ups.
aladin: Excuse the language of our P8 user, it isn't intended to be offensive, but dismissive of differences in vendors and more pointed towards our similarities in the struggle to get the <explative omitted> service working.
Actually, multiple explatives mostly due to Qtel lying to customers. I can tolerate a simple (or simple minded policy), I can't tolerate deliberate falsehood. Frankly, I'm more polite online for the most part, I'm as diplomatic as a sledgehammer in person. I'm also about as honest. When I make a mistake I say so, when I find fault I say so. I explain my mistake, I expect the same of others. I also respect others who do the same a LOT more than those who don't.
I absolutely despise hypocrits!
I'd rather ten people anger me with honesty than one enrage me with falsehood discovered.

Amazingly only Qtel essentially laughed. State took it up (thanks to a petition) with Commerce and Economy.
All I know is that my VOIP is working. Just found out my house basement is full of poop thanks to a bad city sewer pipe. I'll have to give my daughter power of attorney to ensure a claim is filed legally to ensure payment for damages.

I apologize if "crap" is considered harsh to some. Very Happy

My point was simply if you're not using Vonage, why are you here? And the deal with coming here to find out if others are having problems with VoIP in some areas is fine, I was just annoyed at the SPAM-O-GRAM redirect. I'm sure Mr Conner did not create this forum to be a political sounding board OR as an all-inclusive VoIP Vigilantes Meeting place. Got Vonage, good. Got another provider, go to their site and fix the problem.

Again, most of this stems from the stupid advert.

Apolgie accepted, I was also mad at the url redirect, I found out who did it and the solution , I have sent pm to dconnor as well as I have posted the problem at the Forum comumity > report a bug under the title "url Redirect" its on the very top, you can read it and find out who did what.
As for me I have came to a conclosion that those people with a working service is perhapes due to a glitch or bug in the Qtel setup,
the more we have feedback the better we understand our option.
also I might add that the way I got to this site is the title "Loss of VOIP in Qatar"
I am not biased to any brand as long as I get my service, we don't have many option over here in doha.

I think we're all agreed that communicating a common concern is the priority irregardless of vendor.
My hat off to aladin for making the appropriate remedial action to the affront of the pop-o-matic. Frankly I was rendering profanities that would make George Patton blush... From long experience and a few fal pas <sp?> I ignored the offense and simply hit the stop button a few times. Along with a rather brittle post... I gather from subsequent posts that the brittle post was another shortage on my part as it was an unintended offense.
The political bit and social disobedience bit I simply ignored. From rather long experience I've learned to let the ignorant injure themselves by their own words rather than fuel their fire with further arguement.
Or to quite Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain), "It is better to let people think you a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt". (OK, a minor paraphrase, but it *IS* a bit late for me today)
A corralary <sp?> is: Let a fool speak his or her piece, it'll make your arguement speak for itself. My initial thought to a certain post previously regarding blocking a certain tower was "whenever I'm out of town". Thankfully the post was properly ignored, as it should have been. My private thought was actually to stop by the livestock market and pick up a sizable deposit (dumptruck) and donate it to the front door of Qtel with an arabic sign saying "Qtel customer service" stuck proudly in it. Of course I didn't express that here, nor of course did I do it. That was only a mental blowing off of steam.
Expressing it causes an increased likelihood of employment of boisterous action that would be counterproductive.
Let's all take a chill pill and think for a bit before we respond like aladin did. Smile

now let's focus how can we conduct a quick survey about the VOIP service loss in Qatar with no mention to brands, I personally don't mind to signup with 2 or 3 vendors, if Qtel is not predictable, this way I might have a chance to get one service at least working, my family back in LA is ready to start me up with any new service, but I am not going to commit without gathering the facts.
Do you have any ideas ?

I *WISH* I had a clue as to suggestions. The problem now is enforcement of a mercurial decision being enforced in a mercurial fashion. My VOIP works, my co-workers with the same equipment does. The only difference is a complaint to Qtel, a petition online and one e-mail to the Emir.
As the others didn't write to the Emir I have no clue...
At this point, take a number, take a guess. Our current functionality could be a technical glitch, arbritrary opening of a range of IP's that will be closed later or anything else that could be thought of under the sun.
If anyone has a better guess than arbritrary openings, let me know. I don't have enough information at this time to figure out anything better. Not enough equipment stats, not enough software information stats (including hardware version), not enough IP number stats (which I'd guard with my life as nasty people LOOK for that information)...
