I am considering using the Vontage service. I have a wireless router with 4 computers hooked to it. 2 hard wired and 2 wireless. would there be a problem with Vontage with this setup and what other equipment will I need?

Vonage, not Vontage. Probably the most common typo on the forum. LOL.

Anyway, your setup should be fine, assuming your Internet connection is good. As long as the Vonage device can be plugged in and get a clean connection to the Internet, you should be fine. It would help if your router supports QoS.

You should be able to make this work. Vonage will provide you with the adapter that you need if you sign up on line. That's the only new piece of equipment that you need. Before you sign up, you might want to try a Voip test call at www.testyourvoip.com to get an idea of the quality of service that you can expect. Also check your upload and download speeds. Download usually isn't a problem, but you'll want a minimum of 128K up.

My router is a D-link wireless 802.11g/2.4GHZ. When I sign up with Vonage will they send me all other equipment needed to support 4 phones in my house or will have to purchase other equipment?

each phone adapter supports two lines, unless you get one of the telephone \ router combos as they only support one line. so it seems like you will need two boxes from Vonage. don't know how they will charge you though, i hear that they charge for routers now.

4 PHONES? Sure, just hook up a splitter or cut the wires to the telephone company and wire the Vonage adapter (at your own risk) to your home wiring.

4 LINES? Yes, if you have at LEAST 90kb bandwidth to support each one. That would be a NICE internet connection, and you'd need at least two adapters with two lines each.

But I assume you mean four actual telephones on the same line.

Be prepared to go through a lot of frustration and hair pulling. Just read all the posts. You seem to have more hardware than most of the people posting for help here. But once you get it to work. It's all good.

Good luck.

Just make sure you give it a few days before making any decisions. My first night was pretty bad with Vonage but after a firmware update for the router and a router reset I will not look back.

I have a good DSL connection now and I"m about to move to a very good cable so I'm really happy with the service. Very clear calls and excellent realiablitiy. It seemed to take about 12 hours after my first reset (after the account was open) for everything to really start clicking. Now it works just like my regular phone line. People I call or who call can't even tell the difference.
