Hmm. I have mine behind a router, with NO ports forwarded, and my Vonage device works 100%. You should not have to forward any ports or put the Vonage device in the DMZ to make it work.

How many devices do you have behind the firewall? With three, it seemed that they never saw the devices... I may be wrong (and often am) but its not like web surfers sitting behind a firewall where they initiate the communications. Vonage wants to send the device a signal that the phone is ringing so it must communicate on an IP and expect that a device (single device) is going to respond on that IP. With multiple devices, which one gets the signal? Port forwarding would only work for one device. What Vonage should do is allow us to set the port(s) that each device could communicate on (give us a list of valid ports) and then we could port forward for many devices. One device may just work cause the router broadcasts the port trafic and the one device is the only thing looking for that traffic.

Just my guess.

I have one, so my experience is obviously not yours. But I have heard of many behind the firewall, and it should (note, obviously not does, but should) work.

One way to do it is to have Vonage configure each device to a custom port range. I think CS could do this for you. I know there are some threads around here that have people with multiple Vonage units behind firewalls.

The key, as I understand it, is NOT for forward ANY ports. Vonage devices should be speaking outbound, and setting up an active RTP server on a random port between 10000 and 25000 for calls, if I understand the process correctly. I may be horribly wrong, but I do know that as long as I don't CLOSE ports, everything works okey-dokey for me, and nothing is forwarded at all. Not via port forwarding, not via port triggering, not via UPnP. The Vonage device is responsible making its own way out, and it manages to, and it keeps the connection alive even though I have all idle connections being cleaned up after 1/2 hour of inactivity.

Maybe if you didn't call up going "nuclear" and offer to "kick some butt" you might get better responses.

Thanks for keeping it technical and professional, Trowski. If you have anything technical to add, please feel free to contribute to the thread. If all you have to add is constructive criticism regarding my communication skills, the thought is nice but unwarranted, unnecessary and undesired.

Anytime, djboca.
The way you state your comments would make me wonder if anyone could have successfully taken your call. Yelling, screaming, and making threats will not automatically make someone magically understand your problem. You are not going to get anyone "fired the next day".

Vonage CS has been outsourced for a long time, what you are stating is nothing new. There are ways around that.

As for "So... in conclusion, there is no known fix for this broken router issue. The latest firmware doesn't fix it and might not cause it. But the hardware is not reliable when it goes bad" that makes tons of sense. The firmware doesn't fix it, but might not cause it? and of course hardware is not reliable when it goes bad. That is why it is called going "bad" instead of "working incredibly well".

You are getting a new adapter, so see how that works. But there are plenty of Vonage reps that frequent the forum, but if I was one of them I would read your post and not offer any additional help as your communication skills do seem to lack when it comes to dealing with CS.

Not trying to, but I guess so. I just figured maybe some constructive criticism on dealing with CS might help, but I guess not... Wink

I am anxious as I sit by the phone and wait to hear the closing date on our house. This hotel is getting a wee bit tiresome.

I find it incredible that your Vonage works as well as it does in the hotel. (insert knock on wood here)
