OK I am seeing more and more people sign up and are sent a Motorola MTA device. If they call our 1800 number and join, they aren't even given an option to choose which device. They are just sent an MTA refurb by default (lame)
The problem is that I am seeing about 6 to 12 times a day people's MTA's have timed out taking firmware, and then the problems start - everything from dropped calls, horrible audio, no internet, you name it. Most of these calls, the techs in India don't notice this which is inexplicable because the config page shows a big red flag...Sometimes I can fix it by downgrading the firmware, and if the device responds the way I want, I'll reload the newest version that had originally timed out. If not, I'll just keep it on the last version.
Sometimes, after a few attempts at reloading, the device will lock up and just blink dumbly, doing nothing ever again. Then an RA has to be issued.
If you are having trouble with your MTA and call CS, make sure the rep looks at his 'config server' to make sure the firmware you have loaded hasn't timed out. I can't count how many times a customer has been sent to me and the first rep (or series of reps) has missed this giant red warning signal.
I would appreciate any feedback about this. If you recently obtained a Motorola MTA and are having trouble with it, this should be checked out. If you have no other choice (can't make calls for example) PM me the acct number and I will take a look.*
*Subject to recall if I get flooded out with all kinds of requests |

I have some problems with echo and static. I did all the suggestions on the troubleshooting faq, to no avail. Bandwidth is not a problem since I switched over to FIoS 15/5MB before switching to Vonage. So I called Vonage and after trying to troubleshoot it for about an hour, the tech decided to send me a new Linksys RTP300. It should arrive today. Hopefully it will solve the problem. |

I sure would not want a refurbished adapter that someone viewed porn next to or spilled beer on.

Well, I am sure the 'refurbishing' process includes wiping the unit down, and probably not much more. I know they don't actually open the unit up and look inside it, much less replace hardware.

Dunno, though my refurb works great so far (5 days...) [KNOCK ON WOOD], though the referb process at the last place I worked was about the same... clean, test, reset, box |
