I installed a new RTP300 about a month ago. Had TONS of problems with CID, 3way calling, ring length issues, dropped calls, funny noises, yada yada yada. Tried to get Tech Support to upgrade the firmware but they could not get to my adapter. So I upgraded the firmware myself, using directions from this site, and I am happy to say, "very quietly as to not jinx it" things are working pretty good now. The latest firmware cleared up a lot of trouble so I would recommend you get the .55 version of firmware before freakin out about your problems.

Vonage automatically updates so everyone with RTP-300 should have the .55 firmware - it was posted by coldgin to get an advanced copy out.

You say that but are in error. Customer Service could not update my firmware. They could not get into my adapter. So I had no choice but to do it myself. I asked if this was common and they said "yes". So anyone out there needs to look for the coldgin post if they cannot get support from support. Rolling Eyes

Yes, unfortunately some of the adapters (especially those with older firmware releases) just hate to get updated via the automatic update, from what I've read here.

Congrats on getting a working adapter, and welcome to the fun (and savings) that is Voip!

The reasons they time out doing an 'automatic upgrade' is because of poor network conditions or due to the fact that the device's underpowered hardware has a hard time downloading and flashing the new firmware while at the same time registering the phone line every 20 seconds and in the case ot WRT, running a wireless network all at once.

IMO manual upgrade is the way to go.
