Wonder why?
Motorola hasn't blocked access - your ISP has. Its up to them to decide whether they'll allow you to access the status pages or not. As to why, good question. Why does
Vonage
block even read-only access to the voice status pages on their equipment also?

Post subject: Blocked Pages
Interesting, the Tech I spoke to at my ISP (Shaw Cable) stated that Motorola were the ones blocking access, though I dont care who is doing it...
Why can't us geeks (even though
Vonage
claims in their recent ad's that we dont exist
) view this info!
I don't care what it says, I just want to see it!

tdwoodbury,
Thanks for the analysis, I do appreciate it! I seem to be one of only a few users on my node here, so I guess I'm lucky. Really good Up/Down, so no
Vonage
issues with b/w.

With a cable modem, that page can be turned on and off from the client side from the ISP. So the cable provider can set a simple setting and lock that page from view if they choose to.
Dunno why they'd bother, but as far as I know that's part of DOCSIS, same as the rule that says that only ISP's can load firmware to the modem.
Sort of like the "unlocked adapter" thread, this is probably a good idea for the Cable ISP most of the time, since people can't hack their modems as easily.

I've read a great deal lately about "uncapping" cable modems and it is, to say the least, dangerous to do. Not only is their some physical manipulation of the modem itself, but if you're caught the you can lose cable service, or face legal problems since doing so violates the user agreements with most service providers. After I read the part that said, "Now, open the cable modem, and remove Circuit A's soldered connection to Card B, to prevent the cable company from changing your settings" I stopped reading.

That is correct. The tech from my cable provider gave me the wrong IP address...
