Ok what about the port that my PAP2 is connected to? If I set that port to LOW and Enable wouldn't the two settings conflict?

BTW I am ignoring him and I GREATLY appreciate the help.

The device priority set to "Highest" for your adapter's MAC address will override the port Low priority, and work that way no matter which port you have it plugged into.

By the way, if you're comfortable flashing firmware, the firmware that seems to have the best QoS performance for many of us is HyperWRT, the latest release of which is based on Linksys 4.30.1 official release. You can find this firmware to download and install here:

Ok before I flash, I went to Linksys' site and the latest firmware version, which I have, is 4.0.2.7. I have the WRT54G v2.2. So the HyperWRT flash you've provided will work?

Also if that is the case, can you post a snapshot OR the settings I should have HyperWRT at??

As you can see in my signature line, my WRT54G is a v2, HyperWRT will work just fine in your v2.2. The QoS settings page with HyperWRT will look identical to the one you've been seeing with the stock firmware, so just set it the same as you've set it now. For "upload" mine is set to manual, with 90% of 384 entered in, or 345.

I've implemented this!

Now even with HyperWRT and QOS enabled when I play online games like Far Cry should I just shut down the Phone Adapter and not even bother trying to run it while gaming or will it work (phone calls without issues) while gaming?

That's going to depend...

If you have Far Cry set as a higher priority, and Far Cry grabs a lot of bandwidth, then it'll probably interfere with Vonage. On the other hand, if you are bandwidth-constrained and have your Vonage bandwidth set to top-priority QoS, then it'll affect your game.

Do you know what kinds of transfer speeds Far Cry needs? Add that to your Vonage numbers and if it exceeds your connection speed, or even comes very close to it, then you may have problems.

Lowering your Vonage voice quality to one of the bandwidth saver options might help.

...QoS does NOT work, as I've stated.

Hey, Celeron. You might want to rip out the stock Linksys firmware and go with HyperWRT (Tofu for the WRT54G, Thibor for the GS). Tofu and Thibor have taken the original HyperWRT code and the latest beta code from Linksys and made a really nice firmware that not only fixes a lot of the problems in the original Linksys firmware, it adds GOBS of new features that Linksys never included.

I think the major reason that you and DallasFlier are coming up with vastly different test results is simply that you are using vastly different routers. A router running the stock build and a router running the latest HyperWRT are not even close to the same router. Apples v. Oranges.

I didn't do any tests on the stock firmware, because I needed the Tofu stuff to fix some other problems (connection drops on BitTorrent). But I have heard sporadic reports here and there of problems with the stock firmware in QoS, so I wouldn't be at all surprised to hear that something is wrong.

Go with HyperWRT (www.hyperwrt.org - be sure to go to the FORUMS and not load the HyperWRT on the home page - the stuff on the front page is hopelessly obsolete). Read the forums for a bit to get an idea of what you are getting yourself into. I think you'll like it.

The WAN MAC address of the RTP is what you want to use.

Look under DEVICE LIST on the WRT54G. You'll see the MAC address of the Vonage unit. Use that one.

The way I have it setup now is ..

cable modem -> wrt54g -> rtp31p2

the only thing that is plugged into the rtp31p2 is the pots phone. i'm not using the switch ports for anything. do i need to turn remote management on , on the rtp31p2?

i dont see the rtp31p2 in the device list on the wrt54g should i?

port 4 from the wrt54g is going to the wan port of the rtp31p2. and the other 3 ports are unused. is this the right way?

on the wrt54g do you set the qos amount for auto? or do you enter a number in? right now i have it set at auto.

i have the qos setup by mac address priority. and set it to highest, but the mac address i used was the lan mac address. i got this from the bottom of the rtp31p2. I will have to change it to use the wan mac address right?

my connection is wideopenwest. 6mb down and 512 up
