Simulring gotcha

Simulring works fine, but this is a gotcha if you forward to your cell phone and live in a dead cell phone zone.

I could not understand why I was getting no calls at home with Simulring to my cell phone. I figured out that my cell phone provider answers immediately when the phone is not in communication. When I was home my home phone never rang and I found all my messages on my cell phone voice mail. Rolling Eyes

I was forced to disable Simulring, but I really liked it when I was away from home. With my situation it's just too much of a PITA to turn it on and off all the time.

Good tip!

I wondered why that was happening sometimes (like when my battery was dead).

Didn't put 2 and 2 together...

One solution is to turn off your cell phone voice mail or change the time to answer to the max about 30 seconds (check under call forwarding on some models). That way the cell will never answer the phone when not available (turned off or no signal), busy (usually goes to call waiting) or no answer (gets a recording after about 30 seconds. Answer your home phone before 30 seconds, and set Vonage voice mail to 25 seconds to prevent your cell from answering first.

Hmm...

How does that keep your cell from automatically going VM when the network can't see your phone? Callers to mine don't even hear a ring when this occurs.

Turning off VM isn't an option for me (work phone).

That's the only glitch when the cell phone is turned off or out of area ("unavailable"). On GSM phones you can set VM to not answer when unavailable, but will forward to VM if busy (unless you have call waiting turned on) or unanswered after a set number of seconds. Mine is set for 30 secs.

My biggest glitch is when I call home using my cell phone that is on the simulring list. Since my phone unavailable (when dialing, cell phone call waiting is not available) the call immediately is answered by my cell voice mail. I reach my spouse on her cell phone in those cases.

Waiting patiently for the first useable Voip mobile phone. When I'm out of "cell" coverage, I'm usually in WiFi.
