Hey all, I've been having one heck of a time with the Motorola VT1000 MTA. I'm experiencing many of the hanging, reset and network crash issues previously posted (behind and in front of my router). I've worked with Vonage Support for a month and a half on this. They've even sent me a replacement VT1000 with no real change. I currently have a beta version of the firmware loaded (it's supposed to deal with the MTA hangs and taking down the router along with all the connected devices) Well, that made little difference.
Here's my question: I currently have three phones hooked up to the line. I know there is some concern with the number of phones these units can support. However, I am not sure whether it is the actual number of phones connected to the line or the number of phones IN USE at the same time. Does anyone have any insight on this?
Much appreciated in advance. |

Search this forum there is a topic on this in the past that is quite detailed.
Basically, the issue has to do with RING power or REN. This is the power required to actually make the telephone ring. Most newer phones utilize electronic ringers that consume little power. You can easily power numerous phones in your house using either the MOT or Cisco box with little consequence. |

Specifically, the Motorola box can power a total REN of 5.0 (and some have reported higher). Every phone you have should have a REN printed on it somewhere (like near the model/serial number). Common values for modern phones are 0.0 - 0.5, while the oldest rotary dial phones with huge manually rung bells will be around 1.0 or greater.
Just add up the REN's from each of your phones and it will almost certainly be below 5.0. |
