Post subject: Slow Wireless Speed
Hi everyone,
I have the Linksys WRTP54G wireless router from
Vonage
. After working out a few problems with the initial setup, (which this site helped tremendously with), everything seemed to work great.
Lately though I have noticed my wireless speed has gone down. I did a speed test with my desktop pc, (which is connected to the router via hard cable), and my laptop which is wireless. My laptop download speed was only 1.69 Mbps, while my hard wired pc speed was over 4.
Anyone have any suggestions, I don't even know where to start. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Do you mean the WRTP54GS router? Or is it without the "S"?
Anyway... You might look for something new you added around your router, such as a wireless phone, microwave oven, etc.
Also, you might try to change the channel the router is using to get away from some of the other "stuff" that could be causing the interference.

And a simple re-boot. Have you tried that?

Thanks for the suggestions, but after trying both of them I still have the same problem.
Any other ideas?
Thanks.

I have same problem. I've tried all channels but can't get above 2.7 on my wireless connection and im getting 6 on the hard-wired connection.

How about distance, equipment placement, and so forth. I would assume that the equipment adjusts transmission speed in accordance with the quality of the connection. If the signal is weak, you would lose speed.

I'm sure those are issues for many. However, I had great coverage regardless of channel with my wrt54g v.1. I unplug it, plug in the wrtp54g and all of a sudden, my wireless connection is horrible except for channel 1 wher is marginally acceptable.
Thanks in advance for the help.

Easy then - do what many of us have done. Fire that REAL router back up (the WRT54G), update it to the latest firmware - either from Linksys or better yet some of the great 3rd party firmware out there, plug the WRTP54G and your wired computers into it, set up QoS on the WRT54G to give highest priority to the WRTP54G, and then turn off NAT, DHCP, wireless and all routing on your WRTP54G. This is exactly NateHoy's configuration, and he will tell you how much better it all works then it did when he was trying to use the WRTP54G as the primary router. My configuration is similar, except that my

device is the RT31P2, instead of the WRTP54G.
