Just got Vonage and called a friend of mine in California from Charlotte, NC. Call got dropped 3 times with a busy signal. Got good bandwidth and a 4.4 on speed tests on http://www.testyourvoip.com/ except latency was about 170ms....
In any event I have 2 questions?
1. Do you ever get dropped calls? 2. Any way to reduce latency (using Roadrunner)? 3. How does one upgrade the firmware with the Vonage/Linksys adapter? (I have a Linksys router and know how to update its firmware)? I have 3.1.6 or 3.3.6 (I forget) 4. Anyway to get a map of all configuraiton options or numbers? I know 150# is the Firmware release.
Thanks so much in advance.

1. I have used Vonage for about two full years, I've gotten maybe 2 or 3 dropped calls. So short answer- no. I use a Motorola VT1000 series ATA.
2. Not really. Keep in mind though, latency depends on several things, including the target. IE, you will get higher latency to Japan than you will to your neighbor. Do you have a router or other network devices that could be interfering with your connection? Could another user on your network be using a lot of bandwidth, and slowing down the test? 170ms is very high for a cable connection.
3. As I understand it, there is no way to manually upgrade your firmware. The Vonage ATAs are remotely provisioned and upgraded by Vonage. If you want to upgrade, I think you have to call Vonage and request an upgrade. I could be wrong on that however.
4. While I don't personally know this, people who do would probably need the model # of your adapter. |

Ok, to TS the latency issue, we will need to know how your network is set up and we need to have the model #'s of your equipment.
For the firmware, call Vonage to get a push through
And for the star and/or pound codes, review your welcome package, users manual, and take a look at the websites available

Thanks all. I did find the config codes in the Welcome package. Sorry.
I changed my bandwidth setting to medium instead of high quality.
As for my network setup. Ambit Cable Modem from RoadRunner Connected to Linksys WRT54GS routher with latest firmware. Version 4 of stock firmware from Linksys.
Connected to Router is 1 PC and the Vonage connection. I also have another PC connected that I turn on once a week. Prob not relevant but Windows XP, Dell 3.6
Wirelessly there is a range extender but the only person that uses the wireless connection is my roommate for about 30 minutes a day.
So it is puttout out a wireless signal but it is not being used 99% of the time.
Never has been used while I am using Voip.
Thank you Peter |

If you have a 2.4ghz cordless phone then there will probably be issues between that and your router. Also update your firmware on the router.
And buy a good cable modem. You are probably paying rent on the one you are using and it's crappy anyways. Buy a Linksys BEFCMU10 cable modem and you will have far fewer problems and better network performance. |
