I tried setting up my pap2 per the userguide. Static ip address. won't work no matter what ip address I use in the rage of my router. Tried opening all suggested ports as well as putting it in the dmz. As soon as I turn on dhcp it works. I suspect that there is either a bug in the firmware (3.1.6) or being unable to set DNS through the PAP2 VRU. My firend confirmed that his does the same thing. Anyone else have this problem.

Mine works fine with static IP. Did you set the correct subnet mask and gateway as well? Also once you have changed the settings a hard reboot seemed to be needed. |

yes all my network settings are correct. I always hard reboot after setting changes.
when dhcp is turned on ip 192.168.1.102 subnet 255.255.255.0 gateway 192.168.1.1 (router ip address)
with dhcp turned off ip 192.168.1.200 (tried a lot of address outside of dhcp pool) subnet 255.255.255.0 gateway 192.168.1.1
wont work when dhcp is turned off. no dial tone. as soon as I turn dhcp back on and reboot it works fine. I asked the only other person I know that has Vonage with a pap2 and it doesn't work for him either. Running fireware 3.1.6. I assume my pap2 is locked. is yours? |

Actually when I first bought my PAP2 (bout 5 days ago) I first hooked it up WITHOUT internet and you could get to all the web pages etc. Then after registering the MAC with Vonage all that has indeed been locked.
Wow, that is strange.... the only other suggestion would be if you had some configuration in your router to not allow traffic from non-dhcp address as a security precaution. |

I have been trying to get this to work with a static IP also. The IP and subnet appear to "stick". It seems as though I can't get the gateway address to stick.
Anyone have a solution yet? |

Do you have MAC address filtering set up on the router?
Some routers (Belkin does) filter not only wireless connections, but also the wired connections. This drove me nuts until I remembered it; once I added the address to the router's MAC table, it worked fine. |

I don't believe I have that enabled, but I'll check when I get home. It's a Lynksys WRT54G router.
If I go back and check the gateway IP after entering it in the PAP2,192.168.0.21, the device is telling me it's 0.0.0.0. |

The MAC filtering probably isn't the issue then.
To my knowledge, Linksys filters only the wireless MACs, not the wired ones. At least, my old 1st generation 802.11b Linksys only did the wireless ones. |

try to reset it, maybe that will help. first dial **** to get into the configuration menu, then dial 73738# and when it asks you for a password try 7756112# or 8995523#. this may get rid of the problem.

I just finished a discussion with the Vonage tech help line. Despite the very helpful tech's best efforts, the issue is not yet resolved. I've also attempted to program a static IP address in the PAP2 running 3.1.6 firmware. The unit will successfully disable DHCP (command 101) but refuses to remember the IP address I program and save via command 111. When I return to command 110 to verify that the correctly entered IP address was saved, it returns the same old 0.0.0.0 address. Has anyone programmed the static IP and verified that it was successfully programmed with the "Check IP Address" command 110? Frank, the Vonage tech, was not aware of any other complaints regarding this issue. I've tried various reset commands without any success.
The whole point of entering the Static IP was so the PAP2 could be assigned a unique static IP in front of a router instead of downstream. I've read that QoS will not be effective when using DHCP. That may or may not be the case. Comments? |
