After downloading a new firmware 2/27/04 at the request of Vonage Support, my vpn connection to my company is no longer working. I reconfigured the cables to bypass the Vonage box and it works fine. I don't have a router, just cable modem > Vonage box > computer.
any suggestions? |

I installed an old hub inbetween the cable modem and the Vonage box and connected the pc to it and works fine now. |

I don't know why the Vonage box would be affecting your VPN connections. Does it only screw with them if you are on the phone? If so, perhaps it has something to do with the QoS.
I'm not a VPN expert, but perhaps it is because the connection isn't receiving the amount of bandwidth it wants, so it cuts out. Just an idea really. |

what type of VPN connection is it?
I can connect using Netgear's ProSafe client, but am also unable to connect through a windows pptp connection. It appears that the MTA might be blocking the communications from returning. I am running VT20_01.1.16 for my version. |

I also have had this same issue. I emailed Vonage about it but I haven't received a response yet.
I know my VPN works because I plugged my router directly into the cable modem and everything worked fine. |

am now hanging the Vonage box off the router instead of the reverse -- no serious Qos issues encountered |

I use both Microsoft's Windows 2000 VPN client (Start/Settings/Network and Dial-Up Connections) and Cisco's IPSec VPN client V4.0 software. Both work fine. I have things connected as follows:
Cable modem --> Motorola VT1005 --> Linksys router --> PC
The Motorola is configured in bridge mode (DHCP/NAT turned off). This means the Motorola gets one IP address from the ISP, and the Linksys router gets another. I have also tried the Motorola in NAT mode and VPN worked then.
Vonage told me recently that version 1.16d of the Motorola software fixed some VPN issues. I had no VPN problems before they upgraded mine to 1.16d, but 1.16d sure made it more stable.
