This is why Vonage makes me angry. I'm very much contemplating cancelling the service. I cannot take this anymore. I WANT THE SIP AND ACCOUNT SETTINGS FROM MY Vonage ADAPTER! I have a sweet Cisco 7940 I want to use. I'm "technically competent" to do this. Thing is, it's against the TOS to hack into the PAP2 and grab this information. With the Vonage large business account, they give you the SIP information, as they should. So what Vonage doesn't know can't hurt them. This isn't right. I'm violated as a customer. Their business accounts include SIP information, their residential accounts do not. Just isn't right...

The solution is easy! GET A BUISNESS ACCOUNT!

Otherwise, do what you want, cancel service, continue using you Vonage adapter or break the ToS...

You have options, and you seem to know them...

No reason to complain on here...

I agree. That restriction 5ucks. Can't really do much about it though.

(edit: why is 5ucks still a censored word?)

Why would you want to use the 7940 instead of a phone adapter? What will that gain you?

that will gain him a really flippin cool phone and the ability to transfer calls and stuff without doing flash-#90-dial-flash. Voip is feature rich, and analog channels aren't. Personally I can't stand ATAs (<3 asterisk servers), and I will probably cancel Vonage once I can port my number to a provider that doesn't make me use one.

I'm very familiar with the 7940 / 7960 SIP load. I have no fewer than 10 such phones on my desk. Running a 7940 at home with Vonage seems like a poor idea. It provides you will just a single line. You can't register more than 1 phone. You can't connect it to your house wiring. The phone isn't cordless. The list goes on.

Running 7940s just isn't practical at home.

Just get the softphone...can't you get the Sip credentials with the softphone?

Yep, the Cisco IP phones work rather well with SoftPhone, and it probably would be a better option. I agree that there's little use for a Cisco IP phone with a single line of Vonage service, especially considering you won't be using all of the fun features of the phone.... BUT, you could set up an asterisk PBX with a few analog cards and configure your Cisco IP phones any way you want, with the added bonus of having an intercom system at your house and the ability to mix & match telephones.
