I just ordered Vonage, and instead of trying to make my alarm work through the Voip line, I am having my alarm company come out and install a cellular connection to my alarm. It is kind of steep for the install ($185), but for an additional $6/month extra on my bill, I don't have to worry about my alarm working without a land line. It is just a suggestion for anyone wanting to switch and not wanting to to mess with the land line issue. |

Vonage works fine with my Brinks alarm system, but a cellular setup is likely the best in terms of overall system reliability. I would like one of those fully internet solutions, but will have to look into that later. This, however, will still not be as reliable as the cell connection. |

$185 + $6/mo for a cellular backup would be too much for me.
I simply swapped out the tip and ring at my alarm box, and it has been working fine. I called up ADT and ran a test, and all the information gets to their call center without a problem.
I have my Vonage adapter and cable modem on battery backup, so I'm not worried unless the power is out for several days.
No problems with my Dish receivers yet either, so I'm happy. |
