Post subject: FCC 911 Deadline Passes for VoIP
An AP report surfaced at around 9AM today stating that the FCC deadline for
Vonage
& all
VoIP
providers to provide E911-type services (where the dispatcher can identify the address of the caller) to its clients has passed; and
Vonage
isn't 100% E911 compliant. Actually, they are far from it. According to the AP article's review of
Vonage
's compliance report to the FCC only 26% were compliant.
I know I don't have E911 yet.
Here is a link for the hosted AP article:

The next step? It's up to the FCC, isn't it? They threatened disallowing new signups for areas where E911 type of service wasn't in place...
Thoughts? Corrections?

Last I read, the deadline was removed indefinitely.
Edit: It does appear that Packet8 has complied:

I got a phone call from my local 911 operator this afternoon asking if I had called 911. I do not have E911 yet she had my number correct. Wonder if that was

connecting?
Would not that be a pleasant surprise!
