Hi,
My Vonage Linksys RT31P2 is connected by ethernet cable to a BT1800HG ADSL Intelligent Gateway router box (the reason I am using a BT1800HG box is because I have a block of 5 static IP addresses for 5 PC's that are connected to it).
I have no problems making outgoing Vonage calls to other phones but if anyone tries to call my Vonage number, the Vonage box only rings once then immediately goes to voicemail before I've had a chance to answer the phone.
Can anyone tell me how to get round this problem please? I'm not sure whether to make changes (if any) to the Linksys configuration or the BT1800HG box.
Regards, Mark |

This you might need to give a few more details about your setup. For example, how is your Vonage box connected to the router? Is it getting an IP address by DHCP? Are you using NAT? |

Hi,
Thank you for responding. Firstly, I should correct an error in the text. I have a BT1801HG box and not a BT1800HG box. I am using NoNAT on the BT box because I have 5 Static IP addresses. No settings have been changed on the Vonage Linksys box.
Each of the 5 PC's is connected by ethernet cable to a Netgear 16-port switch box. The switch box is connected to one of the ethernet ports on the back of the BT box.
The Vonage Linksys box is connected directly to one of the 4 ethernet ports at the back of the BT box (I've also tried connecting it the 16-port switch).
Each of the 5 PCs is using a static IP address from the DHCP pool on the BT box.
The BT box allocates a DHCP Private (NAT) address 192.168.1.65 to the Linksys box.
One thing I need to mention is that these 5 PC's and the Vonage phone work fine when attached to a BT1800HG box running firmware version 3.7.3 in the office. It is only when I moved the 5 PC's to another geographical location and attached them to a newer BT1801HG box (supplied by BT and running firmware 3.17.3), that I get the in-coming call problem.
If you can provide a solution for this new BT box that would be great, but if you're not sure, I think I will try using the older BT1800HG box at the new location to see if it makes any difference.
Thanks. |

Under the help pages they provide details on port forwarding etc that are required - maybe you've only done this for the older BT box? |

Hi,
Thank you for your reply.
After a lot of testing and re-testing, I finally found the cause of the problem - and it was nothing to do with the BT boxes.
I had the Vonage 'SimulRing' feature set up so that 3 Vonage phones would ring at the same time. However, the 2nd and 3rd numbers on the SimulRing list were not connected the internet (users had switched them off in their houses!).
For some strange reason, this situation caused the Vonage SimulRing system to ring the 1st number on the list 2 times only, before immediately going into VoiceMail. Once I removed the 2nd and 3rd numbers from the list, the 1st number rang normally and I had time to answer it.
I think this is a bug in the Vonage software because the 1st number should have continued to ring whether or not the 2nd and 3rd numbers were connected to the internet.
