I've searched all over, and find hints that a RT31P2 shouldn't be much different than a pap2 to unlock, but I can't find where anyone has sucessfully unlocked this unit. Anyone here know if this has been done?

I have read about people unlocking a PAP2 but I have never read anything about anyone unlocking a RT31P2.

That's as best as I've been able to find as well. Sad Wasn't there a lawsuit against Vonage and linksys about the devices being locked? IIRC, it was because the packaging didn't mention that you had to use Vonage service, only a Voip provider, or something like that. Was that ever resolved?

Uh... the packaging does say Vonage all over it. I do not remember any lawsuit. I think I remember someone posting that they were going to sue Vonage, but I believe they were just talking out their @ss. blah blah

It may, now, but originally it didn't mention anywhere on the box that Vonage was required to be the Voip provider. (It may have had a Vonage logo on the front, I don't recall, but it didn't say it was required.) I'll have to look it up, I could have sworn there was a class action suit about it...

Here's one example, but I thought there was another suit brought by end users as well.

Interesting that they are being sued by a free phone service...seems more like a marketing ploy...Also I noticed you did not place a link to what happened with that lawsuit. There has not been an update. I also find it interesting that they are now partnering with Google. Please, a bad way to get their name in the market.

Also, if you read your TOS for Vonage, you will see that you agree to not participate in a class action suit.

You shall not bring, or join any class action of any kind in court or in arbitration or seek to consolidate or bring previously consolidated claims in arbitration.

Why do you say its a bad way? If I were a small company trying to get my name in the market, I could think of a LOT worse ways than partnering with Google, with the name recognition and press attention that they have. Marketing 101 - if you don't have widespread name recognition in the market, partner with someone who does.

Actually, that's pretty funny, but I don't think its worth the paper its written on - or the electrons it takes to display it on your screen. I'm pretty positive that a company cannot contractually force you to give up your legal rights to take a dispute with them to court - particularly since such a class action, to be successful, means Vonage would be found to be in violation of the law. (Not saying they ARE, but for a class action to be brought and be successful, they'd have to be - and they can't force you to sign away your rights on that via a TOS or contractual term.) Good scare tactic against the uninformed though, I guess. Doesn't give me a warm feeling about Vonage & their top management, I'm afraid.

Two different things. The bad way to get the name in the market comment was directed towards their lawsuit. Advertising is much cheaper than legal fees etc.

The partnering with google etc was directed more towards basis of the lawsuit. I can see how that could have been misread.

As for the TOS, it doesn't prevent legal action, just not joining the into a class action.
