I have had Vonage for several months now with no real issues... until recently.

first off, here are my specs:

Location = Michigan
ISP = Charter Communications
Speeds = 236 kbps up / 2605 kbps down (a lot of time its faster)
Vonage Adapter = RT31P2-VD (firmware 1.30.01)
Network Setup = Cable Modem (Moto Surfboard 5100) -> RT31P2-VD -> 2 PCs and a Mac
Test Call to Boston = 4.0 (I can post the detailed results, but I don't think they are related to my problems)

So, like I stated above... things have been going OK. But recently the router (RT31P2-VD) has been rebooting, ALOT!

It comes back within 30 seconds, but happens several times a day. I loose both internet and phone. I work from home a lot, so this is a real pain.

It seems to have gotten worse when I have multiple machines attached to the router. I normally just have one PC attached... when I add my laptop (running VPN), it happens a lot. I just bought a Mac that is attached as well, now its happening more. And when I have all three attached, it happens all the time.

I have read through the forums, and found similar issues. I really think it has something to do with issuing multiple IP's. All the machines run DHCP and the router is set to obtain the IP automatically.

Someone help please!

BTW... I called tech support (what a JOKE!) The told me to make sure it was plugged into the wall and not a surge protector. I followed their directions, but it happened within five minutes of the change.

Thanks,

Scott

That's a tough one. If I were you and if I had another router available, I'd temporarily remove the Vonage unit and see if the other router works steadily with the 3 computers on line. If it does, I'd call Vonage and see about replacing the adapter/router. If it doesn't I'd call the ISP and complain.

If you don't have a spare router laying around, I think you should start with a call to your ISP, since you haven't indicated any correlation with incoming calls (?).

I'm having the same exact problem. I've got a ping running in the background and notice it dropping packets for 8 seconds or so. Go to the router and the voice ports are restarting.

Anyone resolve this issue yet?

As far as the ping dropping, this could be an issue. Ping the gateway
for about 100 counts:

ping -n 100 [ip_address_of_gateway]

See how much packets are dropped. If they drop more than 5%, get your isp out. When I first got Charter, I was dropping almost 75%, the
service guy came out and measured the cable signals and determined that the cable modem was being overdriven. A few weeks later, I got a similar problem, < 10% drops, they came back out and re-measured the signals and still OK, I convinced the guy to replace the cable modem. That did the trick. Hope this info helps.

It's not the pings dropping from the ISP. It was more for illustrating that the Linksys router is rebooting and the pings are an indication of this happening.

Btw, I turned off Logging and uPNP and it seems the problem went away. I forget which one I did last, though. Smile

You might be on to something... Smile I checked with my neighbor which as Vonage and they do not get disconnected... I remember recently turning on logging to verify the ports that I needed to pass to a system. I wonder if I ever turned this feature off.. Anyway, I'll give that a shot. I've also have reverted my network to a minimal system configuration, just to see if I see any patterns.

Thanks for passing the info,

J Smile
