I just wish that Vonage would get with the program and address some of the biggest gripes out there. Poor support for modem based equipment and no ACR. The other big issues are Custormer Service, which Vonage has really improved on, and slow number portiblity which is usually the POTS fault. Also, I think that it is rude to put down and yell at people that are just asking for features that other Voip providers offer. That is a bad way to keep customers. Sad

Well I just signed up so I am in the testing phase. ACR is something I have on my POTS and it is an excellent feature. Sad to see it may not be implemented in the near future.

System seems good, but a few issues I've noted with my service: voice quality has been very good to less than acceptable, my CID does not work consistently, and I can't seem to dial toll-free numbers...

I sure hope so. I would hate to see Vonage fall behind with it's features. Vonage is doing some real cool and exciting stuff right now, I just hope that they remember that a full suite of features does allot to attract and keep customers.

yeah I hope so too, but there have been no rumors, facts or otherwise (I've seen) that it will be coming.

Anonymous Call Rejection (Which is interesting since Vonage uses Paetec and Focus switches that are either WeCo 5E's or Nortel DMS-100 or 200 type switches that have the option.

Per Line Caller ID Block

The ability to use pulse dialing. I'm a retro phone collector and much of my collection doesn't have the buttons.

Most of that will be solved once I install my Asterisk PBX which will allow me to implement all those features. But its going to cost me at least $300 for the interface cards.

So thumbs down to Vonage for that. But I'm still happy with the service otherwise.

Hum.. You must not have read the latest (Feb 8th) issue of PC magazine with a review of Voip providers Very Happy

I just read the review. Good point. All other Voip providers offer "Do Not Disturb". Why Vonage still refuses to offer it is beyond me. I've already contacted a rep and I was told there was no time table for implementing the feature. No time table??? Hello? The time is now.

You have more customers because you were first to market. With bigger players like AT&T and Verizon coming in the game your customer base (us) will gradually erode to a point where you become insignificant. In fact, in a latest review in PC magazine Vonage did not impress.

What you should say is: "Yes sir, you'll have Call Blocking by the end of the month". There should be no discussion about this.

Don't know if I'd go that far. Voip isn't offering anything standard POTS doesn't already have. With both, you can make local and long distance calls, get features like call waiting, caller ID, forwarding... the list goes on.

So with features available either way, and POTS generally being more reliable, what is the appeal of Voip? One-word answer: price. Voip beats the crap out of the telcos by offering everything but the kitchen sink for one low, fixed monthly price. If price was no object, there would be few reasons to ever leave the more reliable POTS service.

AT&T, Verizon, the local cable companies-- all offer Voip service but are more expensive than Vonage, and in some cases offer fewer features and smaller "free" calling areas. So from a pricing standpoint, Vonage is blowing them off the road.

We'd be fools to believe that just because "known" brands like AT&T and Verizon entered the consumer Voip market, Vonage must eventually fail. Anyone who believes a newcomer can't make it against The Establishment forgets the mid 1980s when a relative newcomer named Intel came out of left field and ate IBM's shorts for lunch.
