You could get yourself a phone that supports it. In fact, I can't see how you could do it otherwise, though that may be stupid ignorance on my part.

As far as I know, Vonage itself does not support a "HOLD" feature (though I could be mistaken - there may be a "#" or "*" code for putting a call on hold). "Hold" is usually up to your local phone or in-house phone system, even with a POTS line, and is not provided by the phone company.

Most phones that do "HOLD" simply mute both inbound and outbound and keep the phone line seized. Then if it's a multiline phone, you can use the other line. Vonage or your POTS service is not even aware that the line is on HOLD, they just know the line is seized so they don't disconnect it.

You'd want a telephone that can play some music instead of muting the outbound signal. I think phones like that are available as regular POTS-style phones. You plug it into your Vonage adapter, and you've got music on hold. And you have control over the music.

This is the cheapest gadget I could find for adding hold music to your existing phone system. The home made project below is a little better, but requires some electronics experience...

This is a nifty little gadgetthat would be pretty easy to make if you have some basic electronics experience.

Feel free to PM me with any questions.

Yeah Music on hold would be good or at least some sort of message than just a quiet line.

normally the Flash (US) or Recall (UK) button is enough to put a call on hold.

Most providers here in the UK provide a "Youve been placed on hold" or a " Please hold the line" message depending on the provider.

The same kind of thing from Vonage would be good.

Just think Vonage if your reading this!! if you did music on hold it could include adverts of the Vonage service haha! free advertising.

think of how many non Vonage customers call Vonage lines and dont even know it or even know what Vonage is Smile

just a thought tho.

Gordy.

Make sure you get an ASCAP license if you do. I used to have one but got tired of paying the $200.00 per year fee. Don't get caugt without an ASCAP license as sombody will ask if you have one or turn you in. I'm in the music business so I am already aware of the requirements

I am with Do It Now ProductionZ. We sell music on hold adaptors, digital players and of course, marketing on hold messages.

We produce our own music so there's no royalty issues and our revolutionary program productions actually have customers requesting to be placed back on hold to hear the rest of a message.

The unit I have in mind for you will work on multiple lines, using the phones keypad and works on all extensions plus a real nice feature is that it works with cordless phones as well. Installation is very simple. It's all part of our "Yes u Can Service Center" and we'd love to help!
I can be reached at 954-962-0920.

I recently hooked up my parents business, a home health agency, with a message on hold system for their telephones. I went with a company named Audiodex Message-On-Hold Solutions. I did a lot of online research and they seemed very reasonable pricewise. They did a great job. I can highly recommend them.

Wow, that sure is some amazing pricing. $375.00 for one recording and another $289.00 for the player. For truly reasonable pricing for on hold messages, go to www.hold-usa.com.
A custom recording and a digital player for under $350.00, and no annual or monthly billing to boot.

Music on hold would be wonderful asset for our biz. I have been looking all over for a phone system that would work, but it is quite complex. We need something that will work with Vonage and has at least a main base and a cordless handset - all cordless would work too - and hopefully it would have music on hold that we don't have to be a rocket scientist to program. Busy enough with the calls! We currently have a Vtech system with 2 lines - all cordless. Help us out Vonage - we are ready to sign up for another line if we can find this phone system!

Thanks!
