I thought that was one of the best features of VoIP.. Not having to pay for a private number, and a fresh start with a new number.

I had to cancel Vonage due to Road Runner issues. When I was on Vonage I didn't get any telemarketing calls.

On my old POTS line 2 or 3 telemarketers a day. On my new POTS none so far. I give my old number to any company that asks for it.

I would suggest giving companies that "need" your phone number a fake, maybe one digit off.

This week I started getting an "Unknown Name / Unknown Number" and "Private Number" calling several times a day. Gotta be a telemarketer since they're not leaving any voicemail.

*grumbles* DAMNIT Vonage FIX YOUR SERVICE SO IT HAS ANONYMOUS CALL REJECTION!

I work in a call centre environment, and even there, the telemarketers among us are looked down upon.
I wish that Vonage would take care of this issue! ACR needs to be implimented, and in my opinion is more important than E-911 by a long shot.

Are you serious? ACR can be spoofed, E911 can't...What ever call center you worked in, compling from prior posts, is not one I care to be related to....

I think that having 911 service is important, but the government needs to update their systems to meet the standards of todays comunication, not expect providers to 'dumb down' their services so that we can reach emergency services.
ACR is a system that is readily available for Vonage to impiment, but they are devoting all of their resources to E-911.
To say that E-911 can't be spoofed is a lie as well. There are several people on these forums that can't get E-911 service because their area hasn't been mapped yet. Also, it takes them long amounts of time to update your information. My father is an airline pilot who uses Vonage, and half the time E-911 isnt activated by the time he leaves for another leg of his shift. He doesnt even bother updating it anymore, and just leaves it set to his home area.
As for being associated with the call center, dont worry, I dont want to be associated with it much either...
Lets just say that when they expect you to be off the phone withing 650 seconds at maximum, and you are teir 2 tech support, there is something wrong...

The telemarketers "wardial" entire exchanges and phone books, trying any number that isn't on the D-N-C. It is most likely that your number was removed by your LNP.

I wouldn't be shocked to see that the ILEC had reported it abandoned to the D-N-C. Mine had plenty of sour grapes by the time I finally prised the number away. (They blocked my attempts with CallVantage, and only Vonage could get it for me). I think the phone companies have better access to update the D-N-C than you do (after all, they wrote the law).

Have you checked the National registry to see if it is still there?

Don't give out a fake! It probably belongs to someone else. Simply refuse to give it out.
