Hi all,

Three times in the last two days I have rung home and heard international ringtone.

The problem is still not fully resolved.

I'd say it's a recreatable problem. I found if I call my Vonage phone repeatedly eventually it will go to international ringtone.
Seems like it's a stress/volume problem.

What you are suggesting makes me wonder about something actually g4hlf. I have noticed that at certain times of the day I seem to get greatly increased latency on my Vonage line. My net connection is excellent, as is my QOS - no problems there that I am aware of. I'm just wondering now if my calls are routed differently when the UK side of things gets snarled up. Might be worthwhile me to try call myself once in a while when I notice the increased latency to see which ringtone I get...

Yes, I believe there is some capacity issue that leads to alternative and low cost routing which throws a spanner in the works. I have also noticed that international ringtone is associated with poor latency & horrible echo

Would be interesting to see a comment from Vonage on this.

I did notice during a good quality call the other day that my adapter was connecting to something at 'eurorings.net'. As a guess, this appears to be located in the Netherlands. I could be wrong but I am starting to suspect that UK calls are routed through somewhere in Europe normally but go out to the US when call volumes are high. This would explain the US ringtone and the increased latency - pings to eurorings.net take significantly less time than pings to Vonage servers in the US.

Personally, I think I might start keeping a log of when these really bad calls occur and where my adapter is connecting to at the time they happen. I don't mind Vonage having backup routing in case of extreme volume but it shouldn't be in common use.

I looked at 'eurorings.net' and its KPN the major dutch telecomms company, they must provide capacity/routing for Vonage UK.
