I just got the following email tech support from LinkSys. Not the most elegant solution, but it got me up and running without replacing the WRT54G (yet)
| Quote: | The WRT54G doesn’t have the capability to have static DHCP and because of that, you cannot really reserve an IP address for your ATA 186 telephone adapter. What you can try to do is open port 5060 using Port Triggering. This will allow your router to open that port but will not specifically open the port for your ATA device only. All computers or devices that are behind the router can use port 5060 if you set it on Port Triggering.
Here are the steps on how to trigger port 5060 on your router. 1. Using the computer hardwired on the router, launch Internet Explorer. 2. On the address bar type, http://192.168.1.1 3. A login prompt will appear, just leave the username blank and type admin for your password. If it won’t accept the default password admin, it means that you have changed the password of the router and you must use the password that you have set on it. 4. Go to Applications and Gaming tab and then go to Port Triggering sub tab. 5. Set Application to “ATA” and then enter 5060 on start/end of the Triggered Port. Also enter 5060 on the start/end of the Forwarded Port. Check the enable box and then save the settings. |
Is there any drawback to using the port triggering? |

None that I can see, as long as you set it up right. Sounds like a pretty workable solution, though you might want to look into 3rd party firmware to add real QoS and other doodads and widgets as well. |

It seems to be working fine now. I was able to go in and set up QoS for the ATA186 via MAC address.
Third party firmware will have to wait until I decidie to dump the WRT54G V5 for an older version.
Thanks to all for the help! |
