I just spoke to customer support on the phone, she assured me both the things in the subject of the Topic would work with Vontage?

Can someone confirm that?

I haven't tried that specifically, but my fax machine works fine with Vonage, and it uses tone dialling (like just about everything these days). A fax modem should generate the same signals that a fax machine does.

I have an internal faxmodem I use for faxing and for scripting old BBS terminal sessions. I have an A-B switch to switch between the Vonage line for outgoing calls and a POTS line I use for incoming faxes.

I use the cheapest POTS line I can get (measured rate SBC $12.31/month including taxes/fees) instead of a 2nd Vonage line because the POTS line is my back up line should Vonage or Internet or Electrical power go down for any appreciable time.

I also have an external modem I use for dialing out on the Vonage line.

Vonage has been fine whenever I have used it for outgoing Fax or modem with just a couple of exceptions that seemed more Internet hops related than Vonage related.

The modem used for dialing the Vonage line has worked flawlessly, albeit all it is asked to do is touch tone dial.

Thanks for your reply.

Is this because incoming fax won't work on Vonage? If so, why does outgoing work but incoming not?

I give out the POTS line as my FAX number, the Vonage line as my voice number. I leave the A/B switch on the POTS line until I want to send a Fax or call a BBS using the Vonage line.

I tested the Vonage line for incoming as well as outgoing faxes and it worked both ways, but I don't want incoming faxes coming in on my voice line. Razz

Yeah just go into your device manager and change the max port speed for your modem lower if you have problems. Vonage does not like those speedy 56K modems. try 13300 or 9600
