D. Conner reports in his 21 November Forum Digest that
Vonage
is moving headquarters. Reason the old 95,000 square ft. office in Edison NJ is overcrowded for Vonage's 1400 employees.
Dan reports the new office which has a gymnasium and cafeteria that can seat 600 is a whopping 35,000 square feet. Well, that works out to a 4 X 6 office for each person as long as the management doesn't opt for a larger office, the janitor doesn't have a broom closet and the offices extent into the gym and cafeteria. Sounds good to me.
Gotcha Dan!

4x6? In cubeville? Dream on! In a few jobs, I would have killed for a 4x6 space.
Of course, that 4x6 also includes the corridor that you walk through, so maybe it's about right. I've sat in cubevilles where you get a 2.5' wide desk that's about 2 feet deep, with about 6 feet between that and the desk behind you, and only a spacer between you and your neighbor. That works out to about 2.5'x5' for each employee, including walking space. to get out of your row. Extend the divider next to you by about 6 inches and you almost have a feeling of privacy, except for the noise.
I've also worked in "double cubes" which have a desk in front of you and a desk behind you, both about 2.5' wide with the whole arrangement about 6 feet long. Given a 3' wide corridor between you and the guy "across the hall", that would be about 4x6 for each employee, and they are decently comfortable-sized cubes, and about as well as most people can expect to be set up at most companies nowadays, with a few exceptions.

As an FYI, I was very impressed to see on my visit to
Vonage
(some time ago) that all executives including Mr Citron, sit in cubes.

I worked for a company that did that, as well. It's always impressive to see the execs avoiding the ivory tower and working with the hoi palloi.

Tomorrow is my last day in this building - Monday I report to the new building and I'm excited - I can't wait to roam around the miles of walking trails down to the helipad and jump and play in the streams and fields, do some bench presses in the gym and then drink a half cafe latte at the Starbucks.
I don't know what kind of office everyone is getting there, but I highly doubt all the execs are getting cubes there. All the CSR's are getting single cubes, they are a nice jail grey in color, and also a hot new chair.
