Yes the page not displayed error is what makes it preferable to do the update in IE. I should have also included the following information:

After you see the page not displayed error, the upgrade should still take around 30 seconds. If the device restarts immediately after you see this, the upgrade probably failed.

If you: are not challenged for a username and password, get settings failed message, or get a username not enabled message, the device is probably fried. You can try to do a hard reset at that point and hope it will clear out the 'garbage' most likely caused by previous failed upgrade attempts.

Failing that, you can try calling customer care and attempting to log in using the Admin username and the hashed Init password that only customer care has access to, many agents honestly don't know this trick. On the other hand, it only works about half, or less, of the time in my experience.

If none of these work, that doorstop, er, router, is going to have to be replaced.

You guys are correct, I am using Firefox as my default browser and did use it during the flash process.

It was not until after the upgrade and I was poking around in the new firmware version that I noticed the IE V5 warning that NateHoy mentioned for restoring a configuration. In fact I am 90% sure that the warning nor the option to back up and restore was offered in the 1.00.20 firmware.

So it appears that I was lucky with a successful manual flash using Firefox. However, it would be well advised for others to use IE V5 or higher for both a manual flash and backup/restore.

This brings up the question: Will using Firefox as a default browser interfere with the auto updates that Vonage pushes?

No, your computer does not get at all involved in that transaction.

That was my son a few years ago but my wife saw the picture and asked me to take it off of here. So I switched to a shot of his first place pinewood derby car.

How do I go about asking the admin to delete it from the gallery?

I upgraded my firmware using Linux and Firefox with no problems. In fact, I didn't even get the "page not found" message you were speaking of. Now restoring may be a different story.

Network engineers who build functionality into NETWORK DEVICES that can only be used with a Windows system should be fired on the spot.
