This is new home. It was never connected to SBC.
I have Phone Jack in all rooms, I have connected output of VOIP adapter to one of jack but I don't get dial tone in other jack.
Is there anything I need to connect in this box ?
My outside box looks like this:
I have one box inside my one of room which has set to wires for Cable & Phone.
Can you help ? What to check ?
Thanks

Sanjay, from the pictures, I see the brown-ish wire coming up from the bottom to the posts (middle of the pictures) with the yellow tag - that's the feed from your local provider (the builder may have already contracted them to run the wire during the build).
I'm betting the blue wires on the left are the ones for the house. If those blue wires are hooked up to ANYTHING in that grey box (the NIU), unhook them.
Is there a central place in your basement or attic that all the wires run? That should enable connections to all the jacks. I wonder if the builder even hooked all those together.
Also, pull the jacks out - make sure they are the same.
I think removing any connections to the blue wires outside and finding the central junction are the keys here. |

Hi Michael Stringer,
I was reading answer to your other post about same kind of connection (Open House).
My VOIP adapter/Cable Modem etc are hooked up in another room not the same room where the Open House Hub is located.
How do I distribute my VOIP connections in whole house ?
From Hub picture, I don't know which room is connected to which phone line. It looks like to me that where my VOIP is hooked up to jack, I need to take that connection and then hook up this connection to Telco (Left side on HUB) which should distribute connection to whole house.
Is my understanding correct ?
If so, how do I find out which out of 6 lines, I need to try ( I don't know their Room connections).
Second question is How the wires are pulled out and pushed in . Is there any tool for that.
Thanks |

Sanjay,
You will need to know what line goes where to proceed.
The blue wire coming in on the far left (labeled "from telco") is one of the blue wires from outside. You can just pull it, label it and leave it loose there. The box essentially takes what is plugged in on the "From Telco" column and distributes it to each of the 6 connections in the "Telephones" area. So, incoming signal goes on the left, outging on the right.
You need to pull the cable for the line running to the room with the vonage router and put it on the "from telco" side to distribute the vonage line 1 to the whole house.
The tool you need is called a 110 punchdown tool. You can rig it with two small flathead scredrivers - just push on the wire on either side of where the metal in the moulding is so that the wire goes down into the "grooves" and makes contact. The tool's available at local hardware stores in the telecom areas. |

Sanjay,
How did you determine which room jack is connected to which connection in your main box. I need to do the same, but all I see is that the main box has the lines labelled as J1, J2, ...., but the jacks on the walls do not have any such labeling. Is there a good way to determine this ? |

Please tell us more. Exactly what did you do to get it working? Other people may have similar problems with new houses, and your pictures could really help.
In general, I don't see why you would need to determine which line comes from the "Vonage room". The thing that's needed is to get all the wires from all the rooms connected together, and the telco connection disconnected. From what I could see of your pictures, the blue cables are your house wires, and neither was connected to the telco box, so disconnecting shouldn't have been an issue. |
