I have a vonage that i set up on a Linksys WRTP54G and used it first on a dsl connection.Everything was fine
now i am trying to use it with my starband 481. i tested my speeds and it will support one.
however, the problem is, the router will not show the blue lights lit up to say I have a phone connection.
What am I doing wrong?

You'll have to provide us with more details, like the exact details for the new equipment and how you have it connected, your upload and download speeds, results of a test call to www.testyourvoip.com, etc. before we can be of much help. Consult the sticky at the top of the forum.

You had DSL before, and now you have satellite. It's likely that settings in the router need to be changed. However, beware that satellite service and VoIP don't typically work well together. See this thread- vonage-forum.com/ftopic9346.html" target="_blank">http://www.vonage-forum.com/ftopic9346.html . Not only do you have long delays, but the upload speeds advertised by Starband 481- "routinely up to 100 kb/s in Turbo Mode"- are marginal at best. I would want to see 128 kb/s worst case.

Thanks for your prompt reply, Steve.
I used to make phone calls over a radio repeater, so delays will not bother me!
i did read the forum link you included. Like Seagrape on that thread, I am also in Belize, but using Starband, Directway.
Set up the vonage system when I was in the states, using a dsl connection.
When I set up the router down here, it works fine to use the internet, but the router does not show I am connected to the phone line.
I do sometimes get a brief dial tone - about one second, but it cuts out immediately.
I have it connected like this:
Starband 481modem-Linksys WRTP54G router-phone and computer.
my download speed tested at 566
Upload speed was 87.7

When i go to the website to do the test call, no page is there. Do I need to do something else first?
Jennifer

No, the webpage should be there. The problem appears to be that my comma got included with the link. Try this- www.testyourvoip.com . Hopefully it works this time.

Hello Belize,

your upload speed is below the 90 kb that Vonage suggest for the service to work.

But you can get into your online account and use the bandwith saver option and select 30 kb, this may help.

Regards

Hi,
I tried that. When i use the voip test, it is giving me a higher score when i do the test to preserve quality than when I repeat the test using the save bandwidth option.
Either way I set it I do not get lit up for the phone ports on the router.
Thanks for the suggestion.

Your overall quality is poor, and delay times are high, as expected, but it should probably still work. (However, it's possible that Vonage will reject an attempt for the adapter to register if the delay times are too great. I just don't know.)

As for equipment, what do you have hooked to the system, and how is it hooked up? You've mentioned a WRTP54G and I assume that you've got some kind of modem for the satellite service, a computer, and some kind of phone. Tell us about them. How are they connected together? Did you have any problems getting an internet connection with your computer? Did you have to change any setups on the WRTP54G after leaving the DSL service and hooking up to the satellite service?
