HI Steve, i have a starband dish, and the cables coming into that are then connected to the starband modem, which is model # 481 This modem connects by ethernet to the Vonage router, wrtp54g, then it goes to a dell laptop through an ethernet connection, and the wireless connection available through the router also works fine. i have no problems using the internet either way, and I did not have to do anything to the router when it was switched from dsl to the starband system. |

I assume that you've re-cycled power, probably several times, while trying to get this to work? If not, shut everything off and then power the modem on, wait a minute or two (or until the lights tell you it's connected). Then power up the WRT.
What kind of phone is it? If it's a 2.4 GHz cordless, that would explain your problem. Have you tried reducing bandwidth as suggested by jjmach?
If all else fails, I would suggest resetting the WRT to factory defaults using the reset button provided. However, I warn you that you might lose internet service when you do that. I was rather surprised that you didn't need to change settings on the WRT when you switched services, since DSL often uses some non-factory settings. If you go this route, then I would suggested looking at the routers setup and writing down everything you can think of so that you can get back to where you are now if necessary. |

Belize,
I used Starband when living in the Bahamas, both the 360 and 481 modems and never could get Voip to work. There are Starband users who claim to have it working.
Try asking at starbandusers.com/ There are a lot of folks there that fully understand the Starband system and can probably walk you through all the necessary steps.
Good luck, I hope you get it working, I never could. |

I have tried repowering several times and thought about the resetting to factory defaults, but the same thing - knew I would probably lose the internet also. maybe I will try a different phone first. This one is not cordless, but it a phone issued by the phone copany here in Belize. Seagrape, thanks for the info also. I will take your suggestion. |

hi i think there is no use trying with a different phone, because even if you have nothng connected to the phone port, the phone lights should come up solid, indication of phone service, you can see what the voice status says, by logging on to the router. did you try logging in to the router and doing a soft reset?

I see. I tried using the info in the booklet to reach the router utility - 192.168.15.1 as an ip address -tried this 3 or 4 times. Nothing opens. Should I put in the cd and do it that way? Will I be able to see the voice status using the cd? What is a slft reset? |

That's quite odd. You say that nothing opens? Does the browser time out and give some kind of error message?
The strange thing about all of this is that you're getting internet service. I assume that the WAN port of the WRT is cabled to the modem and the computer is connected to a LAN port on the WRT, right? Could you get to the WRT setup pages back when you were using DSL? |

You must put the router address in the exception list in the browser's proxy settings. Starband 481 requires the use of a proxy and if there is no exception, the proxy will search and not find the local address. |

i did that when I set up the 481, I hink Step 4 was to configure proxy settings on the browser. i told it to use automatic configuration script, then enter http://www.starband.net/proxy Would it be better to enter it manually under that tab for proxy server? |

Ok. I see where you mean under exceptions. Let me try it. |
