Hi everyone, here is my scoop:
I have two routers on my network: a) RV082 which serves as a gateway/firewall and b) RTP300 which is only used for its Voip function via Vonage.
I am having problems with my Voip service in that the intermittently calls get dropped, every other time the phone doesn't ring (goes directly to voicemail) or Caller ID doesn't display anything or it says that data is unavailable.
I have contacted Linksys to see if there were any issues with the two routers coexisting and they say that all should be fine.
Vonage suggested that I reverse the order of my routers making the RTP300 the gateway and have RV082 sit behind it. The problem with doing that is that I rely heavily on having numerous ports forwarded to various resources on my network (i.e. FTP, HTTP, SMTP etc). RV082 allows for a large number of port ranges to be defined whereas RTP300 only allows for 10 different ranges so reversing the order of those routers is not a viable option for me.
I have made numerous calls to Vonage and Linksys trying to figure out what is going on. So far I have had zero success. Every time I contact Linksys about reconfiguring the routers I get a different answer. Vonage's tech support is basically nonexistent. Half the time I can't even understand those people. Why is it that people providing phone support cannot speak English?
Also, why is it that Vonage only offers routers with Voip built in. Why don't they offer just phone adapters? Where is the logic here?
I have had this Voip service for about two weeks now and I am just about at the point of losing my mind. If I can't get it resolved by next week I will be canceling and going back to Verizon.
Does anyone have any ideas? |

Well first, try to ignore the Caller ID issues for now. There are known issues with the RTP300 and CID, and many people are having problems with it. (Read through the forum and you'll see a number of threads.)
Meanwhile, I understand that getting rid of your RV082 isn't an option, but as an experiment it would help to plug your RTP directly into your modem and see how the phone behaves. Also, run a test at www.testyourvoip.com and see how things look. Assuming that it doesn't look good with your current configuration, it would be nice to see comparative results with the RV082 out of the picture and even with a computer plugged directly into your modem. |

Thank you for the suggestions. Over the weekend I will try plugging RTP300 directly into the cable modem to see if that makes a difference. |

Are you load balancing with two internet connections on the RV082? I bind Voip traffic to one internet connection with my Xincom dual wan router to avoid issues and even then I have to reboot my RTP300 if it gets failed over to my second internet connection. |

I only have one Internet connection so I am not load balancing. |
