Yeah OK - It's against the law to have more than one phone number?
This is not Nazi Germany. Time Warner wants you to be their customer alone, more likely. Plus, their voip service probably uses the same portbase as Vonage (5060-5061)for SIP registration and so that's the (simplified) technical reason why you can't have both.
I am seeing an alarming trend where Time Warner customers call up, sometimes they have no phone light or dial tone, every other aspect of their router is working though. The phone will ring and complete calls, but there is no audio, just dead air, but the call will stay on line as long as both parties are willing to hold the phone. This is exactly what would happen if ports 10000-20000 were blocked - the call would complete but no audio would pass.
Someone posted on this forum about a remark made by a TWC rep who sneered at a Vonage customer that he wouldn't be using Vonage much longer because they were about to start blocking the ports. I am hoping that this is not the case beginning to unfold.
You might think I am crazy, but last July, every tech here got about 15 calls a day from Comcast subscribers that needed a full reset and MAC clone before they could get online again... |

HA HA HA HA HA!!! (snort) HA HA HA HA!!!
(breathe, must remember to breathe)
I have TWO phone numbers (cell and Vonage) and with Vonage Virtual numbers, I can have as many as I want for $5 each a month.
There's NO FCC LAW that limits you to a set number of phone numbers if you pay for them. He's trying to scare you out of Vonage. Call his management, give them his name, and explain what he said. When they stop apologizing, they'll can his a$$ if they know what's good for them.
Sorry, can't stop laughing. Thanks, that's the funniest thing I've heard all freakin' day, and it's 11:30 PM, so your record for today will probably stand.
I don't even know why having a Vonage line would make any difference to your getting a TWC Digital Phone line, except maybe for conflicting ports, but with lies like that, I'd order another Vonage line if I were you, unless you want to have two separate companies, and then there's always AT&T or SunRocket... |

Crap. My most excellent ISP is about to be bought out by Comcast. You just took the funny and made it sad. Killjoy. (grin) |

You can still use both services even if you register using the same ports 5060-5061. You are only registering the adapter at this address. I do it all the time with my Asterisk server and multiple VoIP providers. |

I assume that's as long as you don't try to restart (register) both units at the same time, right? |

No, you can still register both at the same time because they have different registrations to different servers. |

Funny when I had vonage, and called RR tech support because my cable modem kept loosing sync. They tried to push their VoIP service to me. I said okay sign me up.. It isn't even available in my area yet. They said they will notify me when it is available.
I finally cancelled Vonage because of issues with RR. The only reason why I keep RR is because DSL in my area cannot even touch the speeds.

Nate -
acutally, comcast is in my good graces as of now. ISP's giving me the most grief this month are:
1. Time Warner Cable (sudden and mysterious inability of devices to register)
2. Shaw (suckiest canadian ISP ever)
3. Rodgers (tied for suckiest canadian ISP)
4.Clearwire (straight up says 'we're blocking Vonage so nyahhh!" |
