PostPosted: Mon Nov 14, 2005 10:06 am    Post subject: vonage india adaptor Reply with quote Back to top

hi,

i am using the linksys rtp 300 router by Vonage and i have been successful in setting it up in bangalore, india. i have a 256 kbps connection from airtel. the voice quality is amazing!!!

coming to the pont...i have been told that the Vonage router is very sensitive and there have been cases where the router got burnt if the correct trasformers are not used......currently i am using the same adaptor provided by linksys 120V AC to 9 V DC. but i am hooking it up to a 220/240V to 120V step down transformer. everything is working fibe but the linksys sdaptor 120V to 9V DC one warms up a little bit after 30 mins or so and gets a little hot after an hour's usage. this is worrying me and i am switching it off for some time and then reconnecting it....

is it normal for the adaptor to warm up?? is the same problem encountered by users in USA who hook up the adaptor directly to the power source??

need some clarification on this...

A lot depends on what you mean by "a little hot". Both my RTP300 and its power supply get warm, but I wouldn't characterize either as being even a little bit hot. I'm plugged directly into 120 VAC house mains.

as long as the adaptor is getting its 120 volts, you should be ok. If your adaptor ever gets too hot to touch, something is very wrong. If you see this, run.

Cold Gin, that picture just made my day! Hope you don't mind if I take a copy?

Vagabond,

I wouldn't be too worried. I use a lot Linksys stuff in India with a stepdown transformer and have never had a problem. Regarding Vonage, I've been lucky that I have the Cisco ATA which takes 240V directly. I've been using Vonage in India for more that 2 years now without a problem.

The way I see it, if the room doesnt smell like a crackhouse (plastic burning) your okay. My adapter runs a little warm but not hot to the touch. If you smell plastic it may be getting a little too warm.

Yeah just read the convenient installation instructions and don't get caught scraping the house pipe, and you will be fine.

Right Kev!?

Hi,

I am doing the same currently. But I am not having dial tone and my PHONE1 LED is not lit.

We can work on this together. I am taking help of someone who is already using BSNL>PAP2 sucessfully.

Thanks
Anu

I have the same problem that many of you face : unable to get my router to work - even for the purpose of an internet connection.
