Sweet. I'll have to look into that. I'd blow $40 on it, for sure.

UPDATE!
Bought the Motorola SB5120 modem to replace my Dlink modem. Without the
Vonage
router my speeds are higher than before.
And the good news is that now my speeds are very good WITH the
Vonage
router.
I don't know if it is faster because of the DOCSIS 2.0 or some other compatibility issue, but my problem is solved.
Also, I got the same deal LMari mentioned: Got Circuit City to match Walmart's price. Thanks LMari!

Oh, my. Now I'm in a quandry. I wonder if updating from my old Linksys DOCSIS 1.0 modem would solve my connection problems, or a M0n0wall router.. Gawd! What do I blow money on first!? LOL.

Post subject: Vonage WRTP54G Router/Adapter Slows Network to a Crawl !
For 2 years I had Comcast highspeed internet (broadband) with a NetGear wireless home network for my laptop, and web surfing performance was great on both my wired desktop and wireless laptop.
Recently I added
Vonage
Voip
, replacing my old NetGear wireless-G router with the Vonage/Linksys WRTP54G combined unit, keeping the same D-Link DCM-200 cable modem.
Now my surfing performance is awfull, almost unusable with standard
Vonage
settings. I lowered the bandwith saver to the minimum, and that helped but performance is still way worse than before I added
Voip
.
If I remove the
Vonage
router, and reconnect just the D-Link cable modem to the desktop without it, my good performace returns. Oh b-t-w, the
Voip
works fine.
Anyway have any thoughts ? Thanx.

Do yourself a cheap favor and replace the Dlink Modem with the Motorola like I did. Your performance without
Vonage
will be better than it was before and your performance with
Vonage
will be fine.

Post subject: DLINK modem/Vonage Router Problem
I got the Motorola SB5120 modem at CircuitCity for $57 and then a $20 rebate. Installed it, and my performance is 80-90% better than before. Tests with the
Vonage
Voip
tester show:
Download: 2.9mbps
Upload 375 kbps
QOS 48%
Any other ideas to improve more ? Still using with just the Linksys/Vonage WRTP54g wireless router/phonbe adapter.
Thanx !

Check with your cable company first. I'm on Comcast, and recently upgraded to a DOCSIS 2.0 certified modem when Comcast upped their speeds from 4M to 6M. Guess what? My modem's still running DOCSIS 1.1. Why? Because Comcast themselves haven't yet upgraded, and are still running a DOCSIS 1.1 network here. My modem won't be using DOCSIS 2.0 until when or if Comcast upgrades to 2.0 themselves.
I guess you decided not to go get the WRT54G, huh?

Haven't decided yet, actually. Just trying to figure out what to blow money on, if anything.
The router is probably my best bet.
I've seen a few people who have run the WRT54G behind what look like twins to my supposedly ancient DOCSIS 1.0 BEFCMU10, and a new modem probably wouldn't do me any good unless I got it from my provider, since they run AXIS gear and can't do firmware updates to anything but other AXIS gear.
They ARE running DOCSIS 2.0, but if I get a new SurfBoard modem and it doesn't happen to have the firmware on board to support 2.0, I've got nothing.
And they are getting bought out soon by Comcast, so buying one of their modems makes no sense if Comcast ever changes out their gear, because I'll end up having to buy the SurfBoard later anyway, most likely, or Comcast will load new firmware to my old BEFCMU10.
So, I'm trying to decide between dropping $50 on the switch and gear I need to turn my old PII into a M0n0wall, or $50 on a WRT54G, or a little more on a WRT54GS for the extra memory, or leaving well enough alone and seeing if
Vonage
ever fixes the firmware. At the moment, I'm leaning toward the WRT54G route.

Like you, I was running an old DOCSIS 1.0 BEFCMU10 - a v2 model. (The original v1's were in a totally different box.) I decided to upgrade to something newer as Comcast increased speed here from 3 - 4 - 6 Mbps here over the last several months. I actually found a v3, fully DOCSIS 2.0 certified, on eBay for $30. I didn't actually take delivery and get it hooked up until after I had been on the new 6M speed from Comcast for a couple weeks though. So I went from DOCSIS 1.0 to DOCSIS 1.1 with the swap. How much difference did it make? Zero, zip, nada. Of course, I was seeing the 6 Mbps throughput just fine through the old modem and my older v2 WRT54G, as it turns out. So, at least I have a spare modem sitting around here for backup now, if anything happens to the one I'm running now.
