I have issues with my caller ID..when i connect my Phone directly with the Phone port in my rtp300 it works..... but if i connect it to my Home wiring It dosent it says incoming call.... (tried diffrent phones and diffrent wall jacks )....


any suggetions

read these two threads.

ONE and TWO for starters.

It has been discussed at length forever, at least it seems like forever because some have the problem, some dont, those that had it got it fixed while others didnt. Had to with either/or Firmware Upgrade, Ringer Equivalancy Number, or Voltage. Some have fixed it by unplugging phones/devices from home wiring, calling Vonage to change voltage setting, or just by plugging phone directly into the RTP300 as you found out. Hopefully it will be fixed in next firmware upgrade.

This issue doesn't seem to be limited to the Linksys ATAs. I still have the Motorola ATA and I just had the same problem. I've recently moved to a new house and in my previous place I had the ATA plugged into one of the wall jacks and everything worked fine. My new house came with CAT5 wiring and a patch panel in the master closet. I disconnected the phone line coming into my house and connected the ATA to where the line used to be connected and everything seemed to work fine. Then I went out and bought a new cordless phone system. The new phone had all kinds of CID issues. Sometimes the CID showed other times it would just say incoming call. I started to blame the phone vendor and Vonage to no avail, until it occurred to me that I can change my wiring. All my jacks terminate in the patch panel and from there you can connect it to whatever you want. Previously I had the jack for the phone connected to the phone line distribution board in the panel, until it occurred to me that I can connect it directly to the ATA like the jacks I had connected to my Gigabit switch. This way the phone is directly connected through the CAT5 in the wall to the jack on the ATA and that solved my problem. Looks like the ATAs are very sensitive to how much unterminated copper you have connected to it. Anyway, I just thought I post this for those of you, who are fortunate to live in a new house with modern wiring. It gives you a lot of options to make this work.

In additon to the excellent information above (and in the other threads), please post your firmware release. 1.00.58 seems to have fixed many caller ID issues.

Also.. Has this ever worked? eg. is this a recent problem or is this the first time you are trying this?

Did you try restarting your '300 then doing two tests? With many of them the caller ID works the first time after a restart but not after that. In my case, I had exactly that problem and a quick call to CS cleared it up. I explained that, they asked me if I had home wiring, I said yes. three taps and a "please restart your adapter and I'll call you back three times starting in 5 minutes", and I was good to go.
