if the landline i was forwarding to was solely mine, i'd do it, but it's a shared line and i don't want my Vonage calls forwarded there except when i'm looking out for them. i might set it up to forward to my cell in cases of network outage, but most of the time i'm fine with my voicemail just catching all (except for the important calls i'm expecting today). thanks for the tip, though... |

Set up the "network outage" forwarding number to your cell, and set Vonage's voicemail timeout faster than your cell's voicemail timeout. That way, if Vonage goes down, you can ignore calls you don't want to waste cell minutes on (which will have good caller ID data forwarded from Vonage so you can decide that on a call-by-call), and they will go to Vonage voicemail after the timeout.
The last thing you want to do is set things up to depend on the Dashboard when your ISP is down, regardless of whether Vonage can keep Dashboard up. If your ISP is down, how you gonna make the change?

I agree that Vonage should have some system in place to make these changes, at least from a "call your voicemail access number, log in, and press a menu option to change your network outage forwarding number". Trying to program something like SimulRing from a voice/tone interface would be... frustrating. (grin)
However, since I signed up in July, this is the first Dashboard outage I've experienced. Hope it'll be the last, too, even though I was not personally impacted by it, since I didn't have anything I needed to change. |
