Tied To The Physical Phone?

Hey Guru's - Hope someone has a solution for this. Am new to the SoftPhone thing... signed up with Vonnage and installed Click-2-Call and X-Pro. Had hoped I could take my laptop with Verizon broadband data card and make calls while on the road. Find out that someone has to physically "pick up the phone receiver" at home for a call to go through! What kind of mobility is that? Anyone know of a way - Vonnage or not - to accomplish my mobile call objectives? If I have to be home to pick up the phone, why use softphone... it is an extra step!

Something is wrong. I use SJPhone (didn't like XTen)

Softphone has its own number and password. Unless you are trying to run softphone in two places, I don't understand. The password for your softphone is in the configuration settings.

There is no reason for your main number to be involved with a softphone call. The two numbers are independent. (but may be tied together with ring properties, forwarding, etc. ) When you leave the house, make sure softphone is not running at home. It can't be run in two places at once.

XTen can be twitchy to set up (I tried repeatedly) Try out SJLabs, and make sure to get the correct version for vonage. All you will need to add are your number and softphone password.
