I have had a smooth experience switching to Vonage with one exception: I can not get the stuttering tone (that indicates new voicemail) to stop. I have made sure all messages were deleted, carefully quit voicemail by typing a "*", have rebooted my Linksys RTP300 broadband router and US Robotics USR8054 router several times and in different orders but no luck.
My configuration: cable goes to cable modem which goes to a US Robotics USR 8054 router. The Linksys RTP300 plugs into one of the ethernet ports on the US Robotics router and three computers plug into the other three ethernet ports of the US Robotics router. A fourth computer plugs into one of the ethernet ports of the RTP300.
Line 1 of the RPT300 unit goes into my house telephone system, which has been disconnected from the outside world (no more land lines). I have several kinds of phones plugged into my home phone system and all of them get a dial tone (with stutter) and can dial out. The phones I have connected are: a Uniden Tru-8860, an older Radio Shack 2.8 GHZ cordless phone with answering machine (with answering machine turned off), and two "classic" non-wireless phones that get their power from the phone line itself.
A call to Vonage technical support was not helpful, basically "this problem occurs sometimes and Vonage is working on how to prevent this" with no hint of when the problem might be fixed or no attempt to take my name and tell me when something is figured out. |

To get a stuck stutter-tone to quit, I've had success with the following two methods:
1 - Leave a new message, wait a few minutes then dial into voicemail and delete it.
2 - Go to your web account and and delete all your messages from the inbox. Next, pull down the 'view mail' menu to see the deleted messages. Delete the deleted messages from the trash (just like in windows). Then using the voicemail settings, disable voicemail. Log out then log back into your account and re-enable voicemail. Give it a few minutes, and you should get the MWI synched back up. |

I wrote about that vonage-forum.com/ftopic8464.html" rel="nofollow" target="_blank" class="postlink">here- ie: delete the deleted message. Combine that with pressing * to exit will take care of it although I now only use the star part.
