Vonage starts charging from the day you sign-up with them. They will immediately assign you either a new number based on the area code you choose, or a temporary "virtual" number if you are porting (LNP) your current phone number. The virtual number is just a way of having a dial-tone assigned to the adapter immediately while you wait for the LNP transfer. It works like a regular phone number - you can call from it and call to it, but it will be a unique number from your current number. Mine was 300 -NXX-YYYY. Your current number will replace the virtual number once the LNP transfer is fully completed. |

but once I register, you might take sometime to send me the adapter isnt it. Will i be charged between the time I register and get the adapter also.
And also, Let me say I opt for number transfer, during the transition period, will i be able to use SBC number and the virtual number assiged as well or, just the virtual number. At what logical point will SBC end and Vonage start completely.
This is lill tricky, so confused. Bare with me. |

I'm not affiliated with Vonage in any way - just a subscriber of their service, so I won't be sending you anything!
I don't know if they start your account billing until you receive the adapter or not - I bought mine at Circuit City and started service the same day.
Your SBC number will work just like always until the LNP transfer is completed. On that day, your SBC line will be dead, and people calling your SBC phone number will ring through to your Vonage adapter. The amount of time for the transfer to take place is variable but expect about 20 days (that's what Vonage states). |

I started with Vonage in August and requested a number transfer from SBC on the first day of my service with Vonage. I am still waiting. I have called Vonage numerous times, had my transfer request escalated four times and still, I am waiting. We move in four days and I've had my number for 22 years and don't want to lose it. Is there ANYTHING I can do to help Vonage move SBC along? Vonage says SBC isn't acknowledging their request for transfer of my number. All Vonage tells me is that they've requested a status from SBC. I live in CA. Anyone else had a problem with this? |

Vonage escalations are a joke...they're a means to get rid of you. Demand to speak to someone in 'MRT' (Management Response Team)'. Vonage works thru 3rd parry carriers for LNP that the reg. svc agents have NO access to. Can't blame them (agents), in a way. They get calls and have little authority. |
