if you dial a number in the UK from the UK you expect UK standards and conventions.
if you dial a number in the US from the US you expect US standards and conventions.

All I have to say is that the USA invented the telephone. |

BT calls it the "square" button. Maybe Vonage can follow suit? And change the voicemail access code to 1571 whilst we're at it. Oh, and change the ringer too (I know it's the UK style, but to me it sounds just a touch too short on each ring). There's probably more stuff I'd like them to change, but I can't think of it at the moment. |

America and England... two nations divided by a single language. |

Hi - I know its not ideal, but you can leave your own message for callers to hear prior to the American announcement. I left a typical message and then just added "if you are told to press the pound key, this is the hash key at the bottom right of your phone". Again not ideal, but it gets around the issue. scorpo |

Although Bell was Scottish, he did most of his development of the telephone in Brampton, Ontario, Canada.
So it wasn't exactly a US invention. |

thats, Brantford Ontario , not Brampton ON....
he moved around alot, went from Scotland (born), to England, then to Canada (Brantford, ON), then to the US and back to Canada (to Nova Scotia) where he died..

They told me 2 months ago they were going to change it - why hasn't this been done - if they are offering a UK service its outrageous they haven't changed this yet! |
Well I get a little annoyed when I call a UK number and they tell me to push the hash button. What the hell is the hash button!??! |
Kevin, that's the button if you'd like to order CORNED BEEF hash.
Or the other hash. But we're not talking bout that here! |
