I've trolled the other topics on this, but I wanted to start again to see what's up.

My setup is an Earthlink DSL modem (ZyXEL Prestige 600 series) in bridge mode with the Linksys RT31P2 behind it as my router/PPPoE client/DHCP server for my home network.

Since moving the modem to Bridge mode and letting the Linksys be my PPPoE server, firmware 1.30.01 was pushed to me and some other issues started:

1) Network goes down occasionally and it won't get back up. I can't determine what causes the takedown. It might be Earthlink dropping my PPPoE IP address and waiting for a new one. The only way to recover is to power cycle the modem. Power cycling the RT31P2 does nothing.

2) At any time, I can't get to admin page directly on RT31P2 without connecting directly to the router. I run a Linux server between my router and the rest of my network. With earlier firmware, I was able to get to from the other side of my Linux server.

3) DHCP seems off or inconsistent. While the Linux server is happily getting (probably b/c I told it never to give up the lease), in order to get to the RT31P2 admin pages, I'm in the garage (my server "room") connected directly to the RT31P2 via a cable and had to configure my WinXP laptop with static IP (currently, outside the range the RT31P2 DHCP server is set to serve). When (1) happens, I cannot get a physical ethernet connection with the cable to the RT31P2 (no light). I had to power cycle RT31P2 and DSL modem in order to get everybody happy again.

Unfortunately, I had net dropping problems before 1.30.01 because I had conflicting PPPoE clients (DSL modem and RT31P2) so I can't isolate it. The fix is the same: power cycle the modem. When I'm down I can't get to the RT31P2 admin pages, so I can't see what state I'm in.

I see that folks are having Vonage connection problems with 1.30.01. I'm having those as well, but it seems to be the network drop/non-recovery causing that.

Any and all help appreciated.

Update: I've verified that VPN to my work's network is now broken as well. The packets never make it past the RT31P2.

So two questions:

1) How do we find out if/when a new firmware is going to be released?
2) Is there a way to revert to a previous firmware and then prevent the auto update from happening?

Through all of this the Voip is fine. But at the expense of the rest of my network.

Should I call Vonage and request an RTP300? Is that any better from a firmware perspective?
