The answer is a qualified "yes." Mine sits behind my WRT54G and works perfectly. I have ports 53, 69, 123, 5060-5061 and 10000-20000 port forwarded to the Vonage adapter, per Vonage FAQ's. The other thing that is critical is that your primary router must have good QoS capability, and you must assign highest priority QoS to the Vonage device. Delays in your internet browsing are ok, delays in Voip traffic have much more impact.
Alternatively, the current adapter Vonage will send you - the RTP300 - has its own firewall and can be placed ahead of or used instead of your other router. I personally don't like this solution because reading here will reveal a LOT of issues with the performance of the Vonage devices as routers, and you don't control the firmware and can't upgrade or change it if you're having a problem. Routing and firewall functionality and performance isn't a high priority for Vonage, so I don't see them focusing on "fixing" the routing issues that these devices seem to have. |
